  • Patent number: 4088192
Abstract: A heat actuated valve comprises a base adapted to be mounted on a fire extinguisher container. The base includes a passsage communicable with the container interior. A pair of stop fingers extend forwardly from the base. A fusible element interconnects the stop fingers. The base, stop fingers and fusible element are of one-piece, integral construction. A plunger is slidably mounted in the passage and includes a passage-blocking portion which blocks the passage when the plunger abuts the stop fingers during a fire sensing mode of operation. The plunger is slidable rearwardly to shift the passage-blocking portion to a first passage-opening position to allow the container to be filled. The plunger is operable, in response to melting of the fuse, to spread the stop fingers apart and travel forwardly sufficiently to shift the passage-blocking portion to a second passage-opening position, enabling the container contents to be discharged.

  • Patent number: 4077429
Abstract: A push-fit inlet valve assembly for the opening into the fuel chamber, such as in a lighter, consists of a flexible valve member and a rigid stem fitted into a bore in the valve member. The valve member, tightly secured in the fill opening, normally effects the closure of the opening preventing any escape of the pressurized fuel. To add fuel, the stem is pressed inwardly and displaces the valve member from sealing contact with the opening and affords communication between the interior of the chamber and the ambient atmosphere. Such communication between the chamber and the atmosphere is provided by a groove formed in the outer surface of the valve member which is opened to the chamber when the stem presses the valve member inwardly.

  • Patent number: 4047572
Abstract: A fire suppression access port is provided in the various plates, doors or covers of a vehicle for ready application of a fire suppressant to areas of the vehicle behind said plates, doors or covers where a fire might erupt. The access port includes a distortable diaphram through which a fire extinguisher nozzle can penetrate together with a tapered throat for guiding the nozzle into a somewhat sealed condition in the port and a nozzle assembly with a spring loaded cap, which nozzle assembly is directed toward the location where a fire is most likely to start.

  • Patent number: 4034784
Abstract: A fuel deflector and restrictor are disposed in the filler neck of an automobile fuel tank to inhibit filling of the tank with improper fuel. An opening in the restrictor permits insertion of and delivery from a fuel nozzle used with non-leaded fuels, but the restrictor obstructs a larger diameter nozzle used with leaded fuels. A resilient deflector member is cantilevered at one end and is biased toward and partly underlies the acceptance opening. The deflector is moved by the smaller diameter non-leaded fuel nozzle upon insertion, but deflects fuel impinging thereon from the unaccepted leaded fuel nozzle through an aperture in the restrictor to actuate the automatic shut-off mechanism of the leaded fuel nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4026336
Abstract: Loose materials capable of fluidic flow are transferrable from a container via a neck or spout assembly which includes coaxially telescoping tubular members with the inner member having specially designed sidewall ports in communication through the inner member into the interior of the container to which the neck assembly is attached. The outer tubular member is biased so as to normally overlie the ports in closing relation. The neck assembly is adapted for use in transferring the materials into another container in which the other container includes an access opening in a lid or endwall dimensioned to permit passage of the inner tubular member of the neck assembly while blocking passage of the outer tubular member thereby permitting opening of the ports. The second container assembly can also include a resiliently biased plug mounted interiorly thereof for normally closing the access opening.

  • Patent number: 3996765
Abstract: A device for servicing closed refrigerating systems comprising a body having a passageway therethrough provided at its respective ends with threaded members for connecting the device to an access valve of the refrigerant system and a refrigerant charging hose. The body rotatably supports a shaft having a camming surface at one end longitudinally moving a plunger toward a depressible valve core by manual rotation of the shaft for communication with the refrigerant system.
