Patent number: 5099933Abstract: A drill bit for drilling holes around the corner of a workpiece is provided with a single rounded continuous cutting edge with radiused upper and lower corners to permit free rotation of the cutting head as it is urged along an arcuate path. The bit is of a unique two piece construction permitting selective materials to be utilized in the shank an cutting head portions.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1989Date of Patent: March 31, 1992Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventors: Thomas O. Schimke, Wilfred M. McCord, Jr.

Patent number: 5018912Abstract: A drilling jig for staircase rails includes a base plate having a first block fixed thereto and a second block adjustably mounted thereon. Rotatably adjustable drill guides with bushings are provided on the first and second blocks to permit adjustment of the guides to a predetermined angle to the base plate. A demountable section of the base plate can be removed to permit drilling of a rail at a point close to an obstruction, such as a knule post. A third block is adjustably disposed on said demountable base plate section and include an adjustable aligning pin guide. The jig is preferably part of a kit which includes a set of drill bits of various sizes, each bit having an elongated shank of the same diameter adapted to fit the bushings of the drill guides. The jig kit further includes a set of aligning pins sized to match the drill bits, the pins having a common shank size to fit the third block aligning pin guide.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1990Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Assignee: By George Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: George J. Patent number: 4948304Abstract: A drive tool for a bit including a support portion for supporting a drive article which has an upper part and a lower part of a drive shaft equipped with a handle and a holding part of the bit respectively, a base frame on which the support portion is coupled by a support axle so that it is rotatable back and forth and a bit having its shank held into the holding part, wherein forward-driving force caused by rotation of the drive article allows the operator to accurately judge the boring depth, while an angle scale on the base frame enables the operator to accurately judge the angle of inclination of the hole with respect to the object to be bored.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1987Date of Patent: August 14, 1990Assignee: Kobayashi Gimlet Mfg. Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tsunemi Kobayashi

Patent number: 4865496Abstract: A jig used for precision boring of holes in a working surface of an elongate work piece includes a pair of mounting plates and an elongate connecting member for mounting the plates together in adjustable, spaced positions such that the plates face each other and can be moved in a direction toward and away from each other. Engagement pad members are attached to mutually respective, bottom sides of the pair of plates. The pad members are adapted to engage opposite sides of a work piece in firm engagement therebetween when the pair of plates are moved toward each other, with the work piece being disengaged when the pair of plates are moved away from each other. A guide member is mounted between the pair of plates and is adapted to guide a boring tool in a linear movement toward and away from a working face of the work piece. The guide member is mounted and positioned such that the linear movement of the boring tool lies in a plane passing generally through the longitudinal axis of the work piece.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1988Date of Patent: September 12, 1989Assignee: Challis Stairways, Inc.Inventor: Brian Challis

Patent number: 4729698Abstract: A portable electric power tool constituted by two cooperating main components, namely, a power head of predetermined exterior cross-sectional shape and a sleeve with interior surfaces mating to the power head to afford relative sliding movement, but not relative rotational movement of the two. The power head includes a driven shaft adapted by a chuck or the like to receive and hold any of a variety of cutters or the like. The foot of the sleeve is adapted for sliding translation along, or positioning on, a workpiece surface. The angle of the sleeve body relative to the foot is adjustable. By locking the sleeve at any desired angle to the foot, the angle of penetration or engagement between a driven cutter and a workpiece may be accurately pre-established.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1986Date of Patent: March 8, 1988Inventor: Jesse E. Haddon

Patent number: 4582105Abstract: A work stand for power operated tools such as, for example, an electrically powered hand drill, with the work stand including a supporting bracket adjustable along a guide column, a guide plate pivotable about a horizontal axis at the supporting bracket, a slide displaceable in a prismatic guide of the guideway, and a machine support carried by the slide. The machine support is adapted to be pivoted around the horizontal axis and is steplessly adjustable around both axes up to a full rotational angle so as to accommodate large rotational moments in a fixed condition. The guide plate and the machine support are each provided with a truncated conically-shaped axle journal accommodated in an associated conical pivot bearing respectively provided at the supporting bracket and the slide.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1984Date of Patent: April 15, 1986Inventor: Robert Wolff
