The radial overarm router includes a machine base with a work surface, a vertical column, a bearing housing, a slide assembly, and a carriage subassembly. The bearing housing is mounted to, and may rotate about, the vertical column. The slide assembly mounts to the bearing housing and in combination with the bearing housing, the slide assembly has translational and rotational motion relative to the column. The slide assembly includes a carriage subassembly that houses a router. The carriage subassembly is configured to allow pivotal and vertical or plunge type motion of the router. The carriage subassembly further provides for transverse movement of the router. Locking knobs and adjustable limit stops are provided for all directions of movement.

    Abstract: The mounting plate includes an upper panel having an aperture for receipt of the cutting implement of a power tool such as a bit or a saw. The panel is adapted to be received in the opening for an insert formed in the work bench where its upper surface is flush with the working surface of the bench. A sub-panel is attached to the lower surface of the upper panel and has a number of slots for receipt of screws for inter-connecting the sub-panel and the mounting ring or base of the power tool. The screws do not extend to the upper surface of the upper panel where they would interfere with the operation of the power tool. The mounting plate has one or more anchor brackets for interconnecting the sub-panel to the upper panel so that the sub-panel does not rotate relative to the upper panel. The mounting plate may be connected to the base of a power tool having a wide variation of hole patterns.

The adjusting screws are rotated simultaneously by a sprocket wheel and sprocket chain drive train on the bottom side of the plate.

A calibration dial having a scale that can be used to measure elevation of the router and router bit relative to the top plate may also be used.

A router is attached to a baseplate, and then this router-baseplate assembly is attached to a router table. Numerous hole grouping patterns are provided to accommodate various routers, eliminating the need for users of the baseplate to create holes for specific router models themselves. Slots in the router baseplate are avoided to provide for greater strength and stability in the mounting. An alternative embodiment includes providing a labeling for the hole groups. The router baseplate may be round, but alternative shapes are provided, including providing the hole pattern directly in the router table.
