Abstract: Cutting apparatus attachable to a skid steer. The apparatus includes a house attached to a skid steer. The house is attached to an arm, which is attached to a motor that drives a blade. A single hydraulic circuit originating from the skid steer powers both the motor and a cylinder that is capable of pivoting the arm or rotating a guard that partially surrounds the blade. The user is able to operate the motor and cylinder independently of one another. The cutting apparatus is capable of cutting a straight line on horizontal, raised, and vertical surfaces.
Abstract: A process for preparing bamboo timber has steps of slicing a bamboo into bamboo ribbons, combining the bamboo ribbons to form a bamboo cylinder, shaving the bamboo cylinder into bamboo foil, and removing irregular sides of the bamboo foil.
Abstract: A tree harvesting machine having a fixed length boom slidable through a tubular support on the machine. Tree harvesting elements are on one end of the boom. A pair of boom tensioning cables, above the boom, extend between the ends of the boom. Flexible power supply lines extend between the tubular support and the tree harvesting elements, the lines supported in zig-zag fashion between the cables on power line carrying means slidable on the cables. A flexible strap extends between the the ends of the boom, located between the cables, to support the power lines passing between the cables.
Abstract: A wood substitute turning blank and method of making the same is described. The turning blank includes a body having an outer shell of relatively low tensile strength material positioned about a rotational axis of the body. An inner core of relatively high tensile strength material is positioned along the rotational axis of the body. The high tensile strength of the inner core allows this turning blank to be turned at high speed on a lathe or the like. The high tensile strength of the core enhances the overall tensile strength of the finished product.
Abstract: A shake fabricating process for producing roofing shakes from wood is provided. In accordance with the process a log is stripped of its bark and cut into bolts having a preselected length corresponding to the desired length of the shakes to be produced. The bolts are then cut in half, or in quarters, longitudinally to produce bolt sections which are, in turn, cut into boards having a preselected thickness. A plurality of longitudinally oriented grooves are then cut into the upper and lower surfaces of the boards to give the surfaces the appearance of being hand split, and the boards are cut diagonally from end to end to produce a pair of shakes which decrease in thickness from their first end portions to their second end portions. In order to achieve the desired wood colorization the shakes are then placed in a pressure treating chamber and a first vacuum is generated in the chamber for a preselected time period in order to draw a liquid pigment into the chambers.
