Hollow Chisel And Bit Patents (Class 144/78)
  • Patent number: 10413975
Abstract: A targeting tool releasably holds a portable drill press on a work piece while drilling a hole in the work piece. The portable drill press includes a tubular column with an open bottom end and a mechanical advantage device. The mechanical advantage device moves a drill up and down along the tubular column. A targeting base includes a base for releasable engagement with the work piece, an upstanding post affixed to the base that is adapted for engagement with the open end of the tubular column, and optionally, a drill guide in the base through which a drill bit passes as the drill moves up and down along the tubular column.

  • Patent number: 7137420
Abstract: A mortiser tool comprises a drill bit, a cutting element mounted around the drill bit and a motor means. In use a motor rotates the drill bit independently of the cutting element, and in use a motor moves the drill bit in a first reciprocating action, in which the cutting element is axially movable in relation to the drill bit. The drill bit is provided with a transmission adapted to axially move the cutting element in a second reciprocating action in use, which second reciprocating action is axially non-synchronous with the first reciprocating action.

  • Patent number: 6401772
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting dovetail joints comprises one or more trapezoidal mortising chisels mountable on a drill press, each trapezoidal mortising chisel having a trapezoidal cross sectional shape with a particular slope or “pitch” on its non-parallel sides. The trapezoidal mortising chisels are used to cut sockets in the tail board of a dovetail joints, where the sockets have a trapezoidal shape with sloped sides. A given slope can be selected for the sides of the sockets by selecting a trapezoidal mortising chisel having the given slope. A washer is also provided which is mountable about the tilt axis of a tiltable work table of the drill press. The washer has a set of holes located at an angle about the washer on either side of a reference radius, where the angle correspond to the slopes of the non-parallel sides of the trapezoidal mortising chisels.

  • Patent number: 6238149
Abstract: A method for connecting an attachment to a drill press includes: providing an alignment member including a first portion and a second portion, and having a central axis; securing the first portion of the alignment member within the chuck; connecting the attachment to the drill press so that at least a region of the second portion of the alignment member is disposed within the void; and removing the alignment member from the chuck and the void. A mortising apparatus for a drill press is also disclosed, the drill press including a rotatable chuck. The mortising apparatus includes a mortising chisel holder and a mortising chisel holder alignment member.

  • Patent number: 5538370
Abstract: A tool is disclosed herein for drilling a square hole in a workpiece adapted to be mounted in the chuck jaws of a drill press. The tool includes a drive shaft having an enlarged spindle provided midway between its opposite ends. One shaft end releasably engages with the chuck jaws while the opposite end includes a threaded bore. A stationary body rotatably receives the shaft and spindle via a pair of spaced roller thrust bearings and a sleeve bushing. A flat drill downwardly depends from the drive shaft threaded bore and terminates in a spade cutting edge. A hollow square chisel is secured to the body and encloses the flat drill. The flat drill bores a circular or round hole in the workpiece while the square chisel forms the corners of a square hole.

  • Patent number: 5297903
Abstract: A mortising device directed to project a polygonal bore within a workpiece is provided to include a parallelepiped guide tube having a drill bit rotatably mounted therewithin, with the guide tube having window slots arranged throughout alternating walls of the guide tube, with intermediate walls of the guide tube intermediate the alternating walls containing the drill bit in an aligned relationship, with a lowermost end of the guide tube having a continuous chisel edge for projection into an underlying workpiece to effect formation of the polygonal hole structure.

  • Patent number: 4838104
Abstract: Helical spline actuator includes a pair of cylinder housings connected together in end-to-end spaced apart aligned relationship by means of a center mount. A shaft is mounted for rotation within the two housings, and has a rotatable drive member extending outwardly therefrom between the spaced apart inboard ends of the housings and out through a circumferential slot in the center mount. Pistons are axially movable within each of the housings toward and away from opposite ends of the shaft. Inboard of the pistons are helical drive members for converting axial movement of the pistons into relative rotational movement of the shaft and drive member connected thereto.

  • Patent number: 4074736
Abstract: A milling gauge provided with slits and a guide piece for milling dovetail grooves into sheets or boards which are dovetailed together at right angles to each other. A milling cutter held by the guide piece is introduced into the slits of the gauge which is clamped with the board onto a work bench. The gauge has a body portion provided with counter guides for the guide piece. Two comb-like guide plates are formed in the body of the gauge and are oriented at right angles to each other thus giving the possibility to introduce the cutter in two different directions into the gauge body for cutting grooves in one board in its transversal direction and in another board in its longitudinal direction.
