Cylindrical Workpiece Patents (Class 148/201)
  • Patent number: 10294536
Abstract: A method for producing partially hardened steel components in which a blank composed of a hardenable sheet steel is subjected to a temperature increase and shaped into a component; the component is transferred to a tool in which the heated component is cooled and thus quench hardened; during the heating of the blank or component in order to achieve the temperature increase to a temperature required for the hardening in regions that are to have a lower hardness and/or higher ductility, cooling elements are spaced apart from the surface by a small gap; the cooling element is dimensioned so that the thermal energy acting on the region that remains ductile flows through the component into the cooling element, characterized in that in order to space the cooling element apart from the component, micro-nubs or knobs are used, which are distributed over the area of the cooling element.

  • Patent number: 10156129
Abstract: A jetting gun placed in a wellbore in a formation for penetrating the formation to create perforation tunnels comprising a pressure vessel, the pressure vessel comprising a propellant chamber and a nozzle, the pressure vessel configured to withstand a pressure of the wellbore, the nozzle embedded in the pressure vessel in a predetermined orientation, such that the propellant chamber is in fluid communication with the wellbore. The propellant chamber fully enclosed within the pressure vessel configured to hold a jetting fluid and an energetic material, wherein the energetic material is operable to generate pressure within the propellant chamber when activated such that the pressure projects the jetting fluid through the nozzle to create an impact fluid to penetrate the formation to create the perforation tunnels. The jetting gun also includes a detonating mechanism configured to activate the energetic material to generate the pressure within the propellant chamber.

  • Patent number: 7435373
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing burrs from inside slotted metal liners exposes the burrs to a high-intensity gas flame that effectively oxidizes or incinerates the burrs, without inducing undesirable temperature levels in the parent metal of the slotted liner. This is accomplished using a torch head assembly having multiple gas torch nozzles disposed radially around the circumferential perimeter of the torch head, such that when the torch head is passed through the interior of a slotted liner, the flames are directed toward the interior surface of the liner. Auxiliary oxygen is introduced at the nozzle outlets, resulting in a large increase in flame velocity and intensity and, in turn, an increase in the flame temperature. The auxiliary oxygen may be introduced through annular passages surrounding the nozzles, such that the auxiliary oxygen effectively forms a cylindrical curtain surrounding the flame at each nozzle.

  • Patent number: 5534296
Abstract: A bath for pre-treatment of light metals that form oxide layers, before electroless (chemical) metal deposition is an aqueous bath containing phosphorous acid. The bath is used in the following process for electroless deposition of nickel: (1) Degreasing by boiling (2) Rinsing (3) Pickling (4) Rinsing (5) Treatment in aqueous bath containing phosphoric acid (6) Rinsing with water (7) Chemically nickel plating (8) Rinsing. The light metal articles are packed in a drum that is immersed and rotated in the pre-treatment bath. Current and voltage are applied to a light metal bar that is attached to a non-rotating place on the drum.

  • Patent number: 5160549
Abstract: A tube fin trimming machine adapted for clamping and cutting elongated finned structures, such as finned tubes. The trimming machine includes an elongated main frame having at least one guideway, support means attached to the baseplate and adapted for supporting the finned structure a carriage unit longitudinally movable relative to the main frame and guideway, and at least one cutting torch unit movably mounted on the carriage unit. Each cutting torch is mounted above an elongated fin and is moved both longitudinally and laterally relative to the fin, so as to provide a desired elongated tapered shape for the fin. This invention also includes a method for operation of the fin trimming machine to perform desired trimming operations on elongated finned structures, such as finned tubes.
