Abstract: A simplified aqueous gel ammonium nitrate suspension blasting agent is made by a procedure in which the step in which both solid and liquid ingredients are combined takes advantage of a balance of positive and negative heats of solution and the sensitivity of the composition is derived from the combination of hexamethylenetetramine and nitric acid. The blasting agent contains from 10 to 13 weight percent water and 75 to 85 weight percent ammonium nitrate, with no solid fuel, auxiliary oxidizers or sensitivity stabilizers.
Abstract: A three component liquid monopropellant composition, adaptable for provid underwater propulsion which comprises an amine salt, oxidant and a desensitizing quantity of water sufficient to provide cooling and steam generation. A method for providing underwater propulsion wherein the aforesaid liquid monopropellant is combusted in the combustion chamber of an underwater reaction motor.

Abstract: Gas dynamic and hybrid gas dynamic-transfer chemical laser systems are achieved by burning halogenated or deuterated tetrazoles in the presence of an oxidizer.
Abstract: An improvement to a liquid propellant gun system wherein a hydrocarbon used n conjunction with nitric acid is predominantly the exo form of tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene and/or its methyl or dimethyl or ethyl derivatives or a mixture thereof. Other suitable hydrocarbons are as follows: a mixture of trans-syn-2-methyldecalin and trans-anti-1-methyldecalin, trans-perhydroacenaphthene and perhydrofluorene.

Abstract: A solid propellant gas generator system employing fluorocarbons as the primary binder and fuel and oxidizing salt wherein the oxidizing power resides in the cation to provide ozidizer-compatible combustion products. The thermal output may be tailored by adding small quantities of boron or carbon fuels and the composition of the combustion products may be tailored by varying the ratio of the fluorocarbon to the oxidizer.
Abstract: Non-cap sensitive aqueous gel explosives containing no suspended solid fuels are made by combining water, hexamethylenetetramine, ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, ammonium perchlorate and nitric acid, along with sufficient polysaccharide gum to thicken the mixture. These explosives are rendered cap sensitive by mixing therewith paint grade aluminum powder or other conventional sensitizing agents. According to a preferred procedure, a cap sensitive aqueous gel explosive is made by a procedure in which nitric acid and aqueous hexamethylenetetramine solution are first combined under controlled conditions of temperature and pH and ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, ammonium perchlorate, thickening agent and aluminum powder are added in controlled amounts in a specified order. The products possess cap sensitivity, even at temperatures as low as minus 23.degree.C.

Abstract: An aerially delivered fuel-air munition consisting of an impermeable tank filled with a pressurized liquid fuel and joined at its two opposite ends with a nose section and a tail assembly respectively to complete an aerodynamic shape. On impact the tank is explosively ruptured to permit dispersal of the fuel in the form of a fuel-air cloud which is detonated after a preselected time delay by means of high explosive initiators ejected from the tail assembly. The primary component in the fuel is methylacetylene, propadiene, or mixtures thereof to which is added a small mole fraction of a relatively high vapor pressure liquid diluent or a dissolved gas diluent having a low solubility in the primary component.

Abstract: The explosives, explosive mixtures or assemblies according to the invention contain at least one new nitrated 2,5,8-triphenyl-tris-triazolobenzene derivative of the general formula (I) ##SPC1##wherein n represents an integer of two or three, or a nitromethane or nitric acid adduct of said compounds, and optionally contain known additives, too.The thermal stabilities of these products are much better than that of the hitherto known brisant explosives, and at the same time their brisance and other explosive characteristics are satisfactory.
