Patent number: 8020236Abstract: A light weight floor sweeper having a very low profile sweeper head that uses a sweeping brush and cleaning pad to slide across the surface to be cleaned. The floor sweeper head is mounted to an elongated handle by means of a universal pivot or universal joint which allows the floor sweeper head to easily pivot about the handle in any direction to pick up debris under over hanging cabinets or under furniture. A sweeping brush is mounted on the bottom of the sweeper head to provide sweeping action as the floor sweeper is moved in any direction. Furthermore there is a soft cleaning pad releasably mounted adjacent to the brush to entrap dust and particles that the brush does not pick up. The brush is powered by a small electric motor. A removable dust-receiving tray is mounted in the sweeper head to receive debris swept by the brush.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2007Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Inventors: Bryan Kaleta, Mark Kaleta

Publication number: 20010032371Abstract: A brush assembly for a vacuum cleaner includes a brush cover; a brush base connected to the brush cover, a rotary drum disposed between the brush cover and the brush base, and an edge brush integrated bumper. The edge brush integrated bumper is mounted around a joint surface between the brush cover and the brush base. The edge brush integrated bumper includes a pair of edge brush portions integrally formed with the bumper. Each edge brush portion corresponds to a side of the brush cover and brushes off dust that is not accessible to the rotary drum. The brush assembly further includes assembling position guide means and fixing means for securing bumper to the brush cover. Since the bumper and edge brushes are integrally formed in an injection molding process, the number of separate parts to the brush assembly is reduced. Also, since the bumper and edge brushes can be assembled simultaneously, productivity is increased as assembly time is decreased.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2000Publication date: October 25, 2001Inventor: Jung-Seon Park

Patent number: 5970558Abstract: A sweeper comprising a housing, at least one drawer, and at least one brush rotatably mounted to the housing for sweeping debris into the drawer. The housing forms an opening for removably mounting the drawer for movement between an open and a closed position. The sweeper is rollably supported on wheels which drive the brush. The sweeper incorporates modular features which allow the sweeper to be assembled without the use of tools.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1997Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignee: Bissell Inc.Inventors: Eugene M. Patent number: 5794297Abstract: A cleaning member having reduced manufacturing cost is provided for effectively sweeping out fine dust, pieces of thread, pieces of cotton waste and the like, and otherwise improving dust collecting performance. The cleaning members for cleaning areas nearby walls are fitted to a floor cleaner that stirs up dust on the surface of a floor by means of a rotary member mounted on its main body casing. The floor cleaner receives and contains the stirred-up dust in dust collecting chambers. The cleaning member includes a mounting section which is molded integrally from a soft and flexible material and which is for mounting the cleaning member onto the main body casing, and at least one downwardly extending plate.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1995Date of Patent: August 18, 1998Assignee: Hoky Contico, L.L.C.Inventor: Kouichi Muta

Patent number: 5509171Abstract: Embodiments of a bumper system are shown and described, each being for installation on floor maintenance equipment to prevent damage to walls, furniture, and woodwork, and to make easier and smoother the movement of the equipment around such obstacles. Each bumper system includes a bumper member that may resiliently retract to cushion head-on impacts and to allow the equipment to reach close to the edge of the floor or carpet. Secondly, the bumper member may rotate or pivot, so that, during a side-impact, the bumper member urges or pivots the equipment away from and around the obstacle. Thirdly, the bumper member has a rolling function, so that the bumper member may roll along a wall or obstacle surface. Preferred embodiments include a pie-piece-shaped or circle-sector-shaped member pivotally attached to the equipment head, with the arc-edge of the sector member facing out toward the corner and side of the equipment head, and having a roller connected to the front edge of the sector.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1994Date of Patent: April 23, 1996Inventor: Frantisek Zejda

Patent number: 4797968Abstract: A protective apparatus for use on the head of a vacuum cleaner, carpet sweeper, or the like, includes a strip of fabric having a length sufficient to extend along the front and sides of the head. First and second brushes are removably coupled to the strip of fabric at locations which are adjacent the first and second sides of the head when the strip is secured to the periphery of the head. The strip is detachably secured to the periphery of the head as for example by means of loop and hook fasteners.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1988Date of Patent: January 17, 1989Inventors: Judy I.
