  • Patent number: 7059945
Abstract: A pipe joint between welded exposed metal end sections of coated pipe being formed into a pipeline is cleaned before a corrosion resistant film is applied. A cleaning head of a cleaning mechanism is placed with a mounting frame on the pipe in the area of the pipe ends to be cleaned. The cleaning head moves in a succession of longitudinal cleaning passes in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the pipe area being cleaned. The frame also moves the cleaning head rotatably with respect to the pipe joint to positions for the longitudinal cleaning passes. A control mechanism defines the extent of the longitudinal cleaning passes, and also controls movement of the cleaning head to successive cleaning passes until the pipe joint is cleaned. The control is programmed and automatic, and there is no need for contact with the mechanism while it is in operation. The number of cleaning heads and cleaning material supply and exhaust hoses or tubes, as well as the number of crew required, is reduced.

  • Patent number: 6990707
Abstract: A cylindrical member maintenance device is comprised of a housing comprised of two hinged halves for being closed around a cylindrical member, such as a stranded steel cable. A rotary helical brush assembly and a rotary longitudinal brush assembly are positioned in the housing and rotatable about an axis of the housing. Each rotary brush assembly is comprised of coaxial split rings with rotary cylindrical wire brushes connected in between and which are independently rotatable about their own axes. Nozzles are positioned on the inside of the housing for applying a cleaning fluid or paint to the cylindrical member. Apertures in the housing are for connecting to a suction device for removing debris, cleaning fluid, and paint to avoid contaminating the environment. Loops on the housing are for attaching to cables for moving the housing along the cylindrical member.

Abstract: A brush device has a plurality of different size annular brushes encircling a single cylindrical brush. All brushes are mounted on a drive shaft associated with an electric motor which can be powered by a battery pack or by utility power. The cylindrical brush will fit into a water jet, while the annular brushes will clean the outside of the water jet. A brush head encircles the annular brushes and is located and shaped to engage a planar surface adjacent to the water jet being cleaned.

Abstract: A pipe end cleaning tool that attaches to a drill power source and comprise of a housing, a roller system, and an abrasive brush. The roller is designed to maintain continuity unto the brush as it rotates. As the abrasive brush wears down, the roller can be adjusted by either moving it onto new holes located on the housing, a worm driven adjustment on the housing, or spring loaded. The results are, the pipe ends gets cleaner and de-burred faster and the abrasive brush can be used to its maximum.

  • Patent number: 6813797
Abstract: The invention is an adjustable wire brush tool for cleaning either the inside or the outside end of a copper pipe or fitting in preparation for soldering the parts together. The tool includes a hollow cylindrical section with a first wire brush on the interior surface of the section. Attached at one end of the cylindrical section is a slightly smaller cylindrical section sized to hold a second cylindrical twisted steel brush having a hexagonal shaft that extends from the smaller section, opposite the larger cylindrical section. The twisted steel brush and attached shaft can be moved to extend the twisted brush beyond the open end of the larger cylindrical section, for insertion into a fitting to clean the fitting interior surface by attaching a power drill to the shaft and rotating the twisted steel brush attached thereto. To clean the outside of a pipe, the twist brush is retracted into the smaller section and secured to that section with an engaging means.

  • Patent number: 6735805
Abstract: A motor driven and or mounted cleaning attachment manufactured of a rigid material, having no need for adjustment, for the purpose of clearing multiple bolt pitch diameters and lengths. Consist of plates sandwiched and fastened together. Mounting plate manufactured to mount directly to motor housing, or a base being driven by a motor, jack-shaft and pulley or gear driven system. The mounting plate is bored with an indexed pattern of multiple diameter bored through holes. Center working plate is mounted to the mounting plate, and has the same indexed pattern of bored through holes as the mounting plate. Except the index has been partially bored away and exposed to the cleaning wheel bore. The Cleaning wheel rotates within the cleaning wheel bore located in the center working plate. Cover plate is mounted to the center working plate, and has the same indexed pattern of through holes.
