Patent number: 9884527Abstract: Annular tire overlay (11) for drawing onto the rolling surface of tires (40), which has a tread (17) on its outside and a gripping surface (15) on its inside, which tire overlay (11) is so designed that contact between the rolling surface of the tire (40) and the surfacing of the road is prevented by the tire overlay (11) when the tire overlay has been drawn onto a tire. The said tire overlay (11) is provided with a flange (21) which stops the tire overlay (11) from shifting in the axial direction of the wheel. Advantageously, the tire overlay is additionally stiffened by a flange (21) of planar form to keep the contact area on the surface below small.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2013Date of Patent: February 6, 2018Inventors: Louis H. Callard, Alexandre Hayot

Patent number: 6983775Abstract: A two-piece tire assembly has a removable tread belt 12 for installing about the circumference of a tire carcass 14. The tread belt has a pair of lateral ends each axially extending beyond the inflated unloaded carcass 14 at the circumferential surface by a distance of at least 4% of the width as measured at the tread belt 12 and carcass 14 interface. The carcass 14 has an abrasion resistant rubber layer 82A at the tread belt interface. The tread belt 12 also has the abrasion resistance tread compound 82B at the carcass 14 interface.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2003Date of Patent: January 10, 2006Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Thomas Roy Fuhrig, Gregory Scott Hanna, William Earl Rayman

Patent number: 4660611Abstract: An improved passenger car tire chain employing heat treated medium carbon steel is disclosed. The improved tire chain is approximately twice as durable as that presently furnished to meet NACM-5179(TC) for Type PL chains when AISI 1026 or 1029 carbon steel is employed at least for links of a cross chain meeting the road surface. The cross chain links are closed by welding prepared abutting link ends which have been previously beveled. After being welded closed, the cross chain links are case hardened, quenched, tempered and air cooled. The improved tire chain is then assembled in a conventional manner to include a pair of side members, fastening means to secure a end of each side member to the other end, and a plurality of cross chains extending between the sidewall members at preselected intervals.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1985Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: Cooper IndustriesInventors: Glenn E. Gockley, Michael D. Shaffer

Patent number: 4481990Abstract: In a tire protection and/or skid protection for vehicle tires the tread of the tire is provided with recesses, which are to receive tire protectors or skid protectors. These protectors are retained in the recesses by means of retaining strands mounted in grooves of the tire tread. The retaining strands are connected to lateral chains or parts of lateral chain networks respectively which come to bear against the side walls of the vehicle tire, there being at least one tensioning device for tensioning the lateral chains or chain networks.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1979Date of Patent: November 13, 1984Assignee: RUD-Kettenfabrik Rieger & Dietz Gmbh u. Co.Inventors: Hansjorg W. Rieger, Erhard A. Weidler

Patent number: 4476907Abstract: An antiskid device and its fittings for a tire including a side chain, a cross chain, a connector, an end link, a hook and a stopper. The side chain includes a side link formed as a two-piece link having two links, one a long link and the other a short link, which are integral with each other. The stopper is angled in transverse cross section and formed with a transverse web of a width large enough to contact a lower portion of the end link and a groove of a width large enough to receive the hook. The cross chain is formed as a cross link of bar material, and the connector is in the form of a link on either end and in the form of a rod in its intermediate portion so that the connector is connected at one end to the cross link and at the other end to the side link.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1982Date of Patent: October 16, 1984Inventor: Chuichiro Odawara

Patent number: 4352382Abstract: In a tire protection chain with plate-shaped components (1) which cover the tread of the tire to be protected, and with at least one chain network (4) located on one side of the tire, the chain network is provided with overload safeguards (7, 8, 9, 14, 18, 22) which form a parting position when the chain network is subjected to extremely high loadings. The overload safeguards are here designed in such a way that no parts can be released and thrown off when the chain network is overloaded.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1980Date of Patent: October 5, 1982Assignee: RUD-Kettenfabrik Rieger & Dietz GmbH u. Patent number: 4267871Abstract: A tire protector chain comprises plate-shaped components (1) which cover the tread of the tire and further comprises on at least one side of the tire a chain net connected to said components (1) by means of connection devices (4;15;24;28;34). The connection devices (4;15;24;28;34) being in the form of overload protection means which under the action of critical external forces free the chain net, or parts thereof, before the breaking strength of the chain links (14) is reached, in such a manner that no fragments of chain links (14) or of the connection devices (4;15;24;28;34) are released.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1980Date of Patent: May 19, 1981Inventor: Erhard A.
