Patent number: 10118449Abstract: A snow chain device for providing good traction to a vehicle tire on a snowy surface is described. The device is capable of being removably mounted on the tire with reduced physical effort and in multiple configurations. The device can be used in modular fashion and a range of patterns making it suitable for use on different tires as well as under varying driving conditions. Also it is possible to cover the entire surface of the tire as well as a partial surface. The device has several link members and several base members. The base members can be affixed to the external tire surface and the link members can be removably secured to the base members.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2017Date of Patent: November 6, 2018Inventor: Samir Hanna Safar

Patent number: 7434455Abstract: The pressure of a vehicle tire fitted on a vehicle wheel is measured and regulated, utilizing a source of compressed air, a check valve leading to an interior of the tire, and an air feed circuit connecting the air source to the check valve. Compressed air is fed from the air source into the circuit and against the check valve to tend to open the check valve. A pressure drop is imposed at a point in the circuit, wherein a resulting pressure drop in the circuit downstream of such point and upstream of the check valve is less than 10% of the pressure drop at the point. A measurement is made of the pressure in the circuit at a location downstream of the point, or in the tire itself. The evolution of the pressure measured in step D is analyzed as a function of time, to determine whether the check valve has been opened.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2006Date of Patent: October 14, 2008Assignee: Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A.Inventor: Denis Alff

Patent number: 4799522Abstract: The present invention relates to a snow chain for vehicle wheels, whereby the snow chain comprises two chain members adapted to extend along the peripheral tread surface of the vehicle wheel when the snow chain is mounted on said wheel. The snow chain comprises tie bars connecting the chain members to each other and adapted to extend transversely to the tread surface when the snow chain is mounted on the vehicle wheel. The snow chain preferably is mounted on arms which are foldable relative to each other and retractable to a position adjacent an end side of the vehicle wheel by means of a retraction device.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1986Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Assignee: Autotyp S.A.Inventor: Bengt E. Patent number: 4481990Abstract: In a tire protection and/or skid protection for vehicle tires the tread of the tire is provided with recesses, which are to receive tire protectors or skid protectors. These protectors are retained in the recesses by means of retaining strands mounted in grooves of the tire tread. The retaining strands are connected to lateral chains or parts of lateral chain networks respectively which come to bear against the side walls of the vehicle tire, there being at least one tensioning device for tensioning the lateral chains or chain networks.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1979Date of Patent: November 13, 1984Assignee: RUD-Kettenfabrik Rieger & Dietz Gmbh u. Co.Inventors: Hansjorg W. Rieger, Erhard A. Weidler

Patent number: 4390053Abstract: In the case of an anti-slip chain, possessing an inner and outer holding device (4,5) which holds a chain-net, a tensioning chain-strand (7) runs from the inner holding device (4), over the tread of the tire, to the outer holding device (5). In order to guarantee that the tensioning chain-strand (7) is correctly guided in the region of the tread of the tire, the said strand is led through a sliding sleeve (9,11) which is located at the end of a track piece (3) and is comparatively long.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1981Date of Patent: June 28, 1983Assignee: RUD-Kettenfabrik Rieger 6 Dietz GmbH u. Co.Inventors: Hansjorg Rieger, Dietmar Holzwarth

Patent number: 4303116Abstract: In a tire chain comprising a running network (3) with steel links between chain strand portions of the running network and the tread of the tire supporting members (4) provided with guide hollows (5) are disposed. By varying the state of at least one lateral retaining strand (1 or 2) of the running network (3) it is possible for the purpose of varying the operating behavior of the tire chain to vary the position of the supported chain strands transversely to the guide hollows (5) in a way that enables the chain strands to project more or less over the outer surfaces of the supporting members (4).Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1979Date of Patent: December 1, 1981Inventor: Dietmar H. Holzwarth

Patent number: 4295510Abstract: A tire chain assembly comprising a tire chain wherein the spaces between the links of the chain are, at least partly, occupied by a wear resistant elastomeric material such that the combination of the material and tire chain form a belt adapted to be removably located over a tire of suitable size.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1979Date of Patent: October 20, 1981Assignee: Dirk Marinus BrinkInventor: Garth Foxcroft

Patent number: 4275781Abstract: A cleated chain wrapping is disclosed for use on mounted automotive wheels. The wrapping utilizes a plurality of chain pairs attached to the wheel and extending transversely across the tread surface. Cleats connect one chain in each pair to an adjacent chain in an adjacent pair.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1978Date of Patent: June 30, 1981Assignee: Sesamat AnstaltInventor: Tilo Riedel

Patent number: 4271887Abstract: In a tire chain comprising supporting members (1) disposed on the tread surface a retaining network (4) for the supporting members (1) is used which comprises transversely extending network parts (3) connecting lateral strands (6) and passing through passage apertures (2) in the supporting members (1). To prevent tilting of the supporting members (1) about their longitudinal axis the transversely extending network parts (3) are joined together in the region of the tire tread by connecting strands (11) which form holding-down means for the longitudinal edges of the supporting members (1).Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1979Date of Patent: June 9, 1981Inventors: Dietmar H. Holzwarth, Hansjorg W. Rieger
