Patent number: 4662418Abstract: A vehicle wheel has a wheel body or hub, an annular rigid rim mounted on it and an elastic inflatable tire mounted on the rim, the beads of the tire engaging annular recesses present on the inner face of the rim. The rim is provided with side flanks of the same curvature matched to the curvature which the flanks of the tire take up in operation, and between which is provided an annular engaging surface extending over the whole width of the rim from flank to flank, this surface giving the wheel good emergency characteristics. The inserts in the beads of the tire do not need any thickened beads which would adversely affect the resilience of its side walls, but only need to be made constructionally and to hold the reinforcing cords. The rim is made in one piece of a light material such as plastics or aluminum and can form an air reservoir for compressed air which is under high pressure and which automatically replenishes the tire when needed.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1985Date of Patent: May 5, 1987Inventor: Jonny Janus

Patent number: 4240483Abstract: A wheel for lessening rolling resistance and other forces that retard the rolling of the wheel consisting of a circular wheel rim, a hub member positioned concentrically within the wheel rim and a spoke arrangement connecting the wheel rim with the hub member for storing and releasing externally applied energy to provide propulsive torque to the wheel. Patent number: 4095846Abstract: A central hub which may contain a bearing or a bushing has a central radial web with reinforcing spokes on each side of the web. The web terminates in an outer rim. An inner rim slightly spaced from the outer rim extends from each side of the web and defines annular cavities on each side of the web. At arcuately spaced intervals in the web between the rims are small perforations. A tire is molded about the outer rim and extends into the annular cavities between the outer and inner rim and through the perforations to form a mechanically integral structure with the web and rims. Additionally thread guard discs or covers may shroud the space between the hub where it protrudes axially beyond the web and the inner face of the inner rim. The covers may be supported either by the bearings in the central bearing apertures of the hub or from the outer faces of the hub itself.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1976Date of Patent: June 20, 1978Inventor: David B.
