Abstract: A tread extension device (10) is provided that has first (12) and second (14) tread extensions for holding a tread during brushing operations. A first connecting device (28) connects the first tread extension (12) to a first longitudinal end (18) of the tread, and engages both the first tread extension (12) and the first longitudinal end (18) of the tread. A second connecting device (30) is included that connects the second tread extension (14) to the second longitudinal end of the tread. The second connecting device (30) engages both the second tread extension and the second longitudinal end of the tread. The tread is able to be brushed in both a first direction and a second direction along its underside.

Abstract: A device (20) for retaining the beads of a tire against the flanges of a rim. The bead retainer device (20) is a non rubber and non metallic ring structure of a composite material. The bead retainer device (20) is capable of being manually deformable in the axial direction. The bead retainer device is also capable of being manually deformable in the circumferential direction such as to be collapsible.
Abstract: A wheel rim assembly (10) includes a first bead flange and a separable second bead flange (16), the separable second bead flange (16) being maintained on the rim assembly (10) by a separated retaining ring assembly (20). Each terminal end (22) of the retaining ring assembly (20) has an arcuately shaped bore (24) extending circumferentially, the bore (24) having an enlarged opening area (30) communicating with an axial opening (28) located at the outboard axial surface (23) of the retaining ring assembly (20). Located within the bores (24) is a flexible locking member (40) comprising a stranded wire cable (42) having balls (44) affixed securely thereto, the balls (44) being captured within the enlarged opening areas (30) and the flexible cable (42) being maintained within the arcuately shaped bores (24) by means of retaining connections (36) received in radial openings (34) passing through the terminal ends (22) and bores (24 ) of the retaining ring assembly (20).
Abstract: A safety wheel designed so that when air sealed within a tire is lost, the vehicle may be supported by a flat protector and bead stopper members in place of air pressure within the tire. The safety wheel comprises a split rim, a tubeless tire mounted on the split rim, and a flat protector of an annular configuration. The flat protector is divided into a plurality of circular protector elements whose opposed opposite ends are connected with each other through the bead stopper members adapted to restrain relative movement between the bead portions of the tire and the split rim.
