Gearing Patents (Class 152/420)
  • Patent number: 9920754
Abstract: An air maintenance tire pump simulator that simulates the environment of an air maintenance tire system is provided. The simulator includes at least one pneumatic cylinder, a structure that forms a closed cavity, and a pneumatic conduit extending between and fluidly connecting the pneumatic cylinder and the closed cavity. A cam is operably connected to a motor, and is also operably connected to the pneumatic cylinder. Engagement of the motor actuates rotation of the cam, which in turn actuates operation of the pneumatic cylinder to increase a pressure in the closed cavity. A method of simulating an air maintenance tire system is also provided.

  • Patent number: 9840117
Abstract: A device (10) for providing air under pressure to a rotating pneumatic tire is disclosed. The device comprises a pump (48, 50, 58) which in use rotates with the tire and which provides air under pressure to the tire when the pump is activated. There is a pump drive system for activating the pump upon a loss of pressure in the tire. The pump drive system includes a connecting rod (52) which is rotationally connected to the tire and an eccentric body (32) which rotates with the rod when the pump is inactive. The eccentric body is inhibited from rotating with the rod to activate the pump. Relative rotation between the rod and the eccentric body drives the pump to provide air under pressure to the tire. An electromagnetic clutch is provided which has a first plate (26) which is non-rotatable and a second plate (36) which rotates with the body. The first plate is connected to the second plate electromagnetically when the clutch is engaged to prevent rotation of the second plate and hence of the connecting rod.

  • Patent number: 9751402
Abstract: An apparatus for installing a torque tube includes a first clamp portion and a second clamp portion. The first clamp portion is arcuate in shape and has opposed first distal ends. The second clamp portion is arcuate in shape and has opposed second distal ends configured to abut the first distal ends of the first clamp portion to form a ring. The first clamp portion and the second clamp portion are configured to clamp a torque tube therebetween. The apparatus also includes a plurality of legs depending downwardly from the first clamp portion and the second clamp portion which are configured to set a spacing between the torque tube and a seal ring.

  • Patent number: 9505278
Abstract: An air maintenance tire assembly includes a tire having a tire cavity bounded by first and second sidewalls extending to a tire tread region and air pumping means for generating pressurized air for maintaining air pressure within the tire cavity at a preset pressure level. The air pumping means includes an upper mounting plate fixed to a vehicle rim, a lower mounting plate fixed to the rim and diametrically opposed to the upper mounting plate, a dynamic mass pivotally attached to the upper mounting plate at a first end of the dynamic mass, and a pump fixed to the lower mounting plate and pivotally attached to a second end of the dynamic mass.

  • Patent number: 9327562
Abstract: A pumping mechanism is used with a pneumatic tire mounted on a wheel rim to keep the pneumatic tire from becoming underinflated. The pumping mechanism includes a plurality of pumps forming a linear belt and subsequently being attached circumferentially to the wheel rim, a plurality of pump holders interconnecting the plurality of pumps in a linear configuration, and a control valve for controlling inlet air into a tire cavity of the pneumatic tire.
