Asymmetry Due To Cross Sectional Profile Patents (Class 152/456)
  • Patent number: 5595619
Abstract: A pneumatic tire has a tread part with two wide circumferential grooves having a width GW of 35 mm or more and extending in either side of the tire's equator so as to divide the tread part into a pair of shoulder parts and a central part. The central part has a surface utilizing successive convex curves of a pair of inner groove walls and a central ground-contacting surface. When the tire is mounted on a regular rim, inflated with regular internal pressure and applied with normal load, widths SW1, SW2 of shoulder ground-contacting areas Fs1, Fs2 where the shoulder parts contact with the ground are different to each other.

  • Patent number: 5591282
Abstract: Improved tires designed for use in an improved tire/vehicle system having two pneumatic front tires and two pneumatic rear tires are especially effective when utilized on vehicles with a suspension system having limited camber, as in a live axle suspension system. The tires include a support member which is molded to the inboard sidewall of one or more tires in the tire/vehicle system. The inboard sidewall of a tire provides improved lateral stiffness in the tire, for cornering, and functions similar to cambering in tire/vehicle systems where cambering is not possible or where camber adjustment is limited.

  • Patent number: 5529104
Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of tires having reinforced sidlls. In order to improve the high-speed performance of a tire and reduce the extent of vibration of the sidewalls (1) and effectively transmit a torque from the wheel to the ground via the tire, the rigidity of the sidewalls of the tire is adjusted by the provision of reinforcements (6) in the form of assembly sections oriented in circumferential direction. Said assembly sections are of short length as compared with the development of the tire measured at the point S of the tire which is located furthest radially to the outside.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a pneumatic tire that can be mounted on a rim (wheel) to assure good engagement with the rim while preventing the occurrence of rim offsets. The bead portion 4a (as indicated by a solid line in FIG. 1) on the front side of a tire 1 which is later mounted on the rim has a bead base diameter .phi..sub.1, a toe portion angle .phi..sub.1, a contact angle .alpha..sub.1 , and a heel portion radius R.sub.1, whereas the bead portion 4b (as indicated by a dashed line in FIG. 1) on the back side of the tire which is first mounted on the rim has a bead base diameter .phi..sub.2, a toe portion angle .theta..sub.2, a contact angle .alpha..sub.2 and a heel portion radius R.sub.2. The bead portion 4a on the front side has a different shape than the bead portion 4b on the back side and the following two relationships hold between the two bead portions; the angle of .theta..sub.2 of the toe portion on the back side should be greater than the angle .theta..sub.

  • Patent number: 5301728
Abstract: A pneumatic tire having two different bead diameters has handling, ride and treadwear advantages. The tire is made so that the rho.sub.m of the longer sidewall and the rho.sub.m of the shorter sidewall are equal. The rho.sub.m of the longer sidewall is made equal to the rho.sub.m of the shorter sidewall by establishing a belt profile wherein the amount of drop at a belt edge is specified to give a mold drop of 0.30 to 0.33 of estimated tire deflection, applying an inflated shape prediction formula to calculate the inflated belt profile and varying the value of rho.sub.m until the drop at the end of the belt closely matches a specified value, using the cosine law to specify the change in belt angle with radius, choosing a shoulder point under the belt edge that allows a 0.050 inch wedge between the bottom of the belt and the top of the carcass ply and varying the slope of the ply at the shoulder point until the inflated ply line passes through the Y-max location at rho.sub.m.

  • Patent number: 4905748
Abstract: A heavy duty pneumatic tire comprises a tread, two side walls, two beads, a radial carcass reinforcement, and a belt composed of at least two plies of which cords are intersected in the adjacent plies. The radius of curvature of the contour of the tread appearing in a tire cross section including a tire rotary axis is asymmetrical with respect to the tire equatorial plane. A larger radius of curvature is given to the tread portion to be located outside when the tire is mounted to a wheel, while a smaller radius of curvature is given to the tread portion to be located on the inner side when the tire is mounted to the wheel. The difference between the larger radius of curvature and the smaller radius of curvature is not less than 70 mm. The rigidity of the tread is larger on the tread portion having the larger radius of curvature than on the tread portion having the smaller radius of curvature.
