Reinforcing Plies Made Up From Wound Narrow Ribbons Patents (Class 152/533)
  • Patent number: 4990203
Abstract: A method of winding a reinforcement layer of a pneumatic radial tire, which comprises providing at circumferentially spaced locations opposite to a front face of an outer peripheral surface of a building drum, a pair of traverse devices each having a fiber cord feed guide and constructed so as to be reciprocated along the axial direction of the building drum; and moving the pair of traverse devices by independent driving devices along the axial direction of the building drum while rotating the building drum, thereby simultaneously feeding rubberized fiber cords respectively from each feed device to a reinforcement belt on the building drum.

  • Patent number: 4989658
Abstract: A speed rated tire (10) is provided with an overlay structure (20) disposed radially outwardly of the belt structure (17). The overlay structure comprises a single ribbon (22) of side-by-side textile cords spirally wrapped about the belt structure such that both ends of the ribbon are in close proximity to the equatorial plane (EP) of the tire, while the axial width of the overlay structure is at least equal to that of the belt structure. The number of radial layers of cords in the overlay structure being greater at the axial edges of the belt structure than the average number of radial layers of cords in the remainder of the overlay structure. A method of manufacturing such an overlay structure is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4987938
Abstract: Pneumatic tires are disclosed, which each comprise a pair of beads, a toroidal carcass composed of at least one carcass ply which extends between the beads and is composed of cords arranged substantially in a radial direction of the tire, a belt layer superimposed radially outside a crown portion of the carcass, a tread arranged radially outside of the belt layer to cover the belt layer, and an auxiliary layer which is arranged between the tread and the belt layer to cover the whole belt layer and is composed of an organic fiber cord arranged substantially in parallel with the tire circumferential direction. The tread is constituted by a tread central portion containing a tire equatorial plane, a pair of tread side edge portions covering the side edges of the belt layer, and a pair of tread intermediate portions between the tread central portion and the tread side edge portions.

  • Patent number: 4981542
Abstract: A device (1) making it possible to apply at least one thread (2) to a supt (3) and characterized by the following features:it has a front clamp (4) and a rear clamp (5) along a direction of advance (F.sub.1);it has means (6, 7) for opening and closing said clamps (4, 5);it has means (8) permitting the displacement of the rear clamp (5) in the direction of advance (F.sub.1) or in a direction (F.sub.2) opposite to the direction of advance (F.sub.1); andit has means (9) for displacing the thread (2) in transverse directions. The invention also concerns the process used in the device (1) as well as the assemblies obtained with this device (1) and this process, these assemblies being, for instance, reinforcing plies used in pneumatic tires.

  • Patent number: 4924928
Abstract: A pneumatic tire includes a belt layer, a tread arranged radially outwardly of the belt layer, and reinforcing layers arranged between the tread and the belt layer at both ends of its width directions, respectively. Each of the reinforcing layers consists of a belt-like member having a plurality of cords in parallel with each other embedded therein. The belt-like member is spirally wound about the both ends of the belt layer from inside to outside of a width direction of the belt layer. A terminal portion of the belt-like member is bent inwardly in the width direction of the belt layer to overlap at least one of cords of the terminal portion and at least one of cords of the belt-like member adjacent thereto, thereby preventing the terminal portions of the belt-like members from being dislodged from the tread and deformed and cords of the terminal portions from separating from the tread even after being used for a long period of time.

  • Patent number: 4889173
Abstract: A tire reinforcing component, preferably a breaker for a radial tire, is formed from an elastomeric ply reinforced by a single continuous cord (7) which extends back and forth from edge (14) to edge (15) across the ply in a zig-zag formation in which traverses (8) (9) of the cord are parallel to each other, and a series of loops (10) (11) is formed at each edge. The ply has its edge margins (12) (13) folded inwards so that the looped edges (14) (15) lie adjacent the centerline (X--X) of the ply.A breaker of this construction is arranged preferably so that the looped edges (10) (12) are located on the radially inner side of the breaker.

  • Patent number: 4869307
Abstract: A pneumatic tire (1) comprises a radial carcass (2), a tread portion (7) and a belt reinforcing structure (8) extending circumferentially around the carcass (2). Disposed radially outwardly of the belt reinforcing structure (8) is a textile reinforced overlay structure (9) having substantially circumferentially extending cords (10). The overlay structure (9) is composed of a series of helical convolutions of a textile ribbon (11) whereby adjacent helical convolutions of the textile ribbon (11) overlap. There is further disclosed a method of applying multiple layers of a single continuous helically wound textile ribbon (11) in a single continuous operation from one axial side to the other axial side of the belt reinforcing structure (8).
