The tire has one or more reinforcing belts 36. Each sidewall has at least one ply 38 or 40 reinforced with cords, the cords have a modulus E of X, X being at least 10 GPa. At least one ply has a turnup end 32 wrapped around the bead core 26. A second ply 38 or 40 is reinforced with substantially inextensible cords having a modulus E greater than X of the cords of the other ply. The second ply 38 or 40 is spaced from the first ply 38 or 40 by the second filler or runflat insert in the sidewall 20.

  • Patent number: 5861073
Abstract: The machine for manufacturing a tire carcass half-reinforcement from a sie filament wrapped around a bead wire which includes: bead wire holders operated by actuating cylinders, allowing said bead wire to be held in a predetermined position; a ring which has half as many hooks as there will be arches of carcass filament contained in the tire that is to be manufactured, the ring being held a predetermined distance away from said bead wire; a reel of filament which is moved in the central space of the bead wire, wrapped around it, the path crossing the plane of the ring and passing radially inside it; and a mechanism for hooking the filament onto each of the hooks.

  • Patent number: 5858138
Abstract: A radial tire having two carcass half-reinforcements anchored on each side f the tire in a bead, the base of which is intended to be mounted on a bead seat of a wheel rim, each bead having at least one bead wire, the carcass half-reinforcements being joined together by connecting means. Each carcass half-reinforcement consists of a carcass filament which is wrapped around the bead wire to form adjacent strands running from said bead wire at least as far as said connecting means. The strands are arranged in a number of groups of two adjacent strands connected by a loop at the connecting means, the two adjacent strands of each group passing axially on the same side of the bead wire, and alternately axially on one side then on the other side of the bead wire, when passing from one group to the next group.

  • Patent number: 5820710
Abstract: A belted tire, especially for motor vehicles, has an inner carcass ply, the end portions of which extend from the inner surface of the tire, about an annular bead core, toward the outer surface of the tire. To form a connection point, the end of the outer section of the carcass ply is placed against the inwardly disposed section. The carcass ply approaches the bead core essentially tangentially, and is disposed thereabout. Between the bead core and the connection point, the two carcass ply sections extend linearly and have essentially the same length.

  • Patent number: 5273094
Abstract: In a pneumatic vehicle tire of a divided carcass the reinforcement elements are arranged at different angles of orientation. They may be provided as a combination of the same or different materials, the same or different cord constructions, the same or different packing densities. The overlap area of two adjacent carcass layer sections represents a transition area of a gradually stepped stiffness. The overlap area represents a constructive discontinuity and is employed for influencing the force fluctuations. The divided carcass which is essentially a sounding board may also be influenced by differently constructed carcass layer sections. The manufacture of such a divided carcass is inexpensive.

  • Patent number: 4733706
Abstract: A radial ply pneumatic tire has at least two carcass reinforcing layers, each of which comprises two discontinuous plies. Each discontinuous ply is anchored around a single bead core and extends through a sidewall into the crown portion of the tire where it axially overlaps the tread reinforcing belt structure. The two discontinuous plies of each carcass layer are separated by a circumferentially extending gap, and the gaps in each carcass layer are staggered relative to one another as well as relative to the circumferentially extending grooves of the tire's tread pattern.
