  • Publication number: 20080110558
Abstract: A label applicator system, upon detection of a bad label, moves a peel plate away from a platen roller and towards a take-up spool to increase the angle between the path of the liner toward the peel plate and the path of the liner away from the peel plate. The angle increases sufficiently to prevent the bad label from separating from the liner. The movement of the peel plate is approximately parallel to the movement of a tamp pad for moving and affixing a good label to a package. Because the processing of the bad label does not reduce tension in the liner to drop the liner into the path of the tamp pad and the movement of the peel plate does not cross into the tamp pad path, movement of the tamp pad is not hindered by the bad label processing.

  • Patent number: 7300531
Abstract: A device and a method for applying tape to one or more sheets of material in a moving line-up. The device can include a tape applicator, a sensor, a tape cutter, a tape gripper, an engagement-initiation press, and a hold-down portion. During intermittent operation, the tape applicator is moved away from the sheets of material causing an unattached tape portion to extend from the tape applicator to a final connection point on the sheets of material. The tape cutter and the tape gripper are configured to cut and grip the unattached tape portion. As tape application is restarted, the engagement-initiation press is lowered to hold the end of the tape in place. The hold-down portion prevents the sheets of material from shifting out of alignment as tape is applied by the tape applicator. The sensor can be used, for example, to detect gaps between the sheets of material.

Abstract: This device comprises a support for a spool (9) of adhesive tape (10) and two spaced drive means (A and B), of the belt or chain type, describing an endless trajectory whilst passing over a drive wheel (14 or 15) and at least one idler wheel (16 or 17), this trajectory being such that during it the adhesive face (10a) of the tape (10) is pressed against the portions (12a or 13a) of these means, and a common electric motor (20) imparts the same motion to the two portions (12a, 13a). According to the invention, these two drive means (A and B) are disposed in such a way that the active portion (12a, 13a) has an edge (12b, 13b) disposed substantially in the same plane as that of the juxtaposed portion, this plane being parallel and merged with that of the tape, these two active portions (12a, 13a) being spaced from each other by a distance less than the width of the adhesive tape (10) such that their edges (12b, 13b) cooperate with the longitudinal borders of said tape.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved system for identifying defects in a composite structure by providing a light source such that defects, and in particular dark defects on a dark background and/or light defects on a light background, can be identified by capturing images of the illuminated composite structure. In particular, the improved system for identifying defects in a composite structure may provide a reflective surface, dispersion elements, and multiple and/or moveable light source(s) and/or camera(s) in order to ensure that the most accurate images of any area of the composite structure, even curved or contoured areas, are captured and processed. As a result, the system of the present invention permits the operator to quickly identify and correct defects which would otherwise create structural flaws or inconsistencies that may affect the integrity of the composite structure.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for reducing the amount of wallboard wasted during the manufacturing process is disclosed. Wallboard sections that contain a cover paper splice, which sections must go to waste, are reduced in size during the manufacturing process. This is accomplished by determining the optimum location for a cover paper splice to be made and making the splice at or near this location, such that a rotary knife can readily isolate the splice onto a section of wallboard having a reduce length. This function is accomplished using any suitable computer equipment capable of monitoring desired manufacturing conditions and using this data to calculate the optimum location for a splice.

Abstract: A bonding structure of check-valves to a fluid container and a production apparatus of fluid container which is capable of reliably keeping the expansion of the fluid container without any fluid leakage after inflating the fluid container. As the check-valve is bonded to only one of thermoplastic container films, both films of the check-valve is fixed to one of the container films, thereby preventing the reverse flow by tightly closing the check valve. As a result, the expansion of the fluid container is reliably maintained after the fluid container is inflated. The manufacturing apparatus includes an up-down roller controller which precisely positions the film to form the check valve. As a result, the manufacturing apparatus can produce the fluid container having the reliable check valves.
