Patent number: 6119749Abstract: The present invention enables efficient taping of a short length electric wire that is taped by a taping head. Namely, an electric wire hand is provided for removing an electric wire after taping from an electric wire clamp that clamps the electric wire. The electric wire hand cuts off the end of a tape wound up around the electric wire during the course of removing the electric wire at a fixed timing by interlocking with other parts according to a control unit. Therefore, a separate process for cutting off the end of a wound up tape becomes unnecessary, thereby making it possible to continuously and rapidly remove an electric wire.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1999Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.Inventor: Susumu Matsuzawa

Patent number: 6024147Abstract: A method and an industrial robotic device for uniformly applying coatings at appropriate thickness and pitch upon a surface moves a spray applicator foam dispenser between two parallel tracks. The uniform application of foam at each pass is assured, by accelerating the speed of the foam dispenser at the end of each pass, by providing respective curved uphill distal ends of the tracks, so that the spray applicator foam dispenser moves up the curved distal ends and returns quickly while changing speed tilt and direction at the end of each pass.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1997Date of Patent: February 15, 2000Inventor: John P. Patent number: 5788791Abstract: For accurately determining, in real time, the collapse of a thermoplastic workpiece processed in a press, such as an ultrasonic welding apparatus or a vibration welding apparatus, a two-phase method is used. In the calibration phase signals are generated which are responsive to the yielding or displacement of the movable press portion relative to the substantially stationary portion arising from forced engagement of the workpiece within the press. The force responsive displacement value is stored. In the subsequent workpiece processing phase, when the workpiece collapses due to the softening and flowing of thermoplastic material as the workpiece is coupled to vibrations, the previously stored force responsive displacement value is recalled as a correction signal and subtracted from the newly obtained displacement signal related to the same force. The result of the subtraction is a true on-line signal indicative of the collapse of the workpiece as it occurs.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1996Date of Patent: August 4, 1998Assignee: Branson Ultrasonics CorporationInventor: David A. Patent number: 5507907Abstract: A sensor system for use with a taping head of a box sealing machine includes a tape dispensing sensor and an box presence sensor. The tape dispensing sensor is positioned along the tape guide path of the taping head for determining whether tape is being dispensed from the taping head and for providing a positive response if tape is being dispensed. The box presence sensor is positioned on the taping head for detecting movement of an element of the taping head that reacts to the box being moved along the taping head and for providing a positive response if a box is present. A control system is provided and is connected to the tape dispensing sensor and the object presence sensor for determining a potential error condition if only one of the tape dispensing sensor and the object presence sensor provides a positive response. Preferably, three sensors are utilized in the sensor system. One senses tape dispensing, another senses a box presence, and yet another senses tape supply left on the roll.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1994Date of Patent: April 16, 1996Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Karl M.
