  • Patent number: 10967545
Abstract: A profiling calender includes an intermediate roll, a lower roll, and a pair of intermediate lugs. The intermediate and lower rolls are separated by a distance defining a height of a second profiling nip. The intermediate lugs are situated at ends of the intermediate and lower rolls and include two quarter-circle bearing surfaces that meet at the second profiling nip. Each end of the intermediate roll or each end of the lower roll is equipped with a collar fastened to the roll and positioned between the roll and a quarter-circle bearing surface of a corresponding intermediate lug. The collar enables a radius of the roll to be increased by a height equal to the separation distance in order to improve an appearance of edges of a profiled element produced by the calender.

Abstract: A fiber reinforced composite laminate with fibers generally oriented along two major axes and having a polyurethane resin matrix suitable for reinforcing wood based substrates such as trailer/container flooring, glulams, plywood, particle boards, laminated veneer lumber, and oriented strand board, is provided. The laminate is produced by pulling the fibers through a resin injection box, where a polyurethane resin is injected into the box to wet the fibers. The polyurethane resin wetted fiber layer is then covered with a release media on the top and bottom sides of the layer. The sandwich of fiber, resin and release media is fed to a double belt press capable of applying pressure and heat to consolidate and cure the laminate. The laminate thus made can be thinner than 0.080 inch and provides excellent flatness compared to pultruded thin laminates.

  • Patent number: 8071123
Abstract: Two resin films each provided with an orally administrable edible agent layer are joined so that administrable agent layers face each other, drawn into a nip between a pair of press rolls, pressurized at back surfaces to bond the administrable agent layers together, and conveyed in a direction substantially conforming to a tangential direction at a pressurization zone of the press rolls. A delamination roll disposed in the conveying direction is used to draw only one of the two resin films sandwiching the bonded plural administrable agent layers in a direction different from the conveying direction, while continuously conveying the other resin film retaining the plural administrable agent layers in the conveying direction. This allows only one of the joined two resin films to be delaminated. The obtained pressure bonded product, that is, an orally administrable edible agent of laminate film form can be punched out into predetermined shapes.

Abstract: A method, other than weaving, for maintaining cords in parallel array for further processing as by calendering with elastomeric material, such as natural or synthetic rubber, to form strips or sheets of rubberized cords used in building tires, belts, and other rubber products requiring reinforcement cords. The cords are first placed in parallel array and then contacted with a piece of backing material faced with an adhesive for holding the cords parallel on the material. The backing material and attached cords are then removed to a calender where the cords are embedded in the elastomeric material.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for making sheets from reinforced elastomeric ribbon. The apparatus has a lead-in mechanism on which the ribbon is received for preliminary orientation. The apparatus also employs a transfer mechanism that incorporates a shuttle head which is supported by a primary carrier disposed over the assembly mechanism. The shuttle head is capable of being protracted from its normal position over the assembly mechanism to a position over the lead-in mechanism where it is also engaged by a stabilizing carrier which assures precise orientation of the shuttle head during its operative movements with respect to the lead-in mechanism. So stabilized the shuttle head: engages and grasps the ribbon presented by the lead-in mechanism; raises the ribbon off the lead-in mechanism; retracts to position the ribbon above the assembly mechanism; and, accurately deposits the ribbon on the assembly mechanism.
