    Abstract: A packing comprising first and second opposed surfaces in a closure area of the packing has profiled portions secured to and extending over each of the opposed surfaces, which profiled portions are adapted to be releasably interengaged to permit connection and disconnection of the opposed surfaces. The profiled portions are each formed integrally with an outer layer of a strip material secured to the associated one of the opposed surfaces. The outer layer of the strip material is formed of a material well suited for forming a peel seal weld with the other opposed surface of the packing, such as a portion of the outer layer of the opposing strip material. The outer layer of each strip material is secured to the one of the first and second opposed surfaces via a base layer of the strip material to which the outer layer is secured by means of a non-peel seal type connection. As a result, the sheet material of the packing, a bag for example, need not be formed of a peel seal weldable material.

    Abstract: A manufacturing device has an outer chamber in which a tool is mounted. The tool is shaped to receive a thermoplastic or staged prepreg. The tool has heaters embedded within it. The chamber region between the tool and the inside wall of the chamber is filled with polysilicone polymer and pressurized to a low pressure such as 50 pounds per square inch. To insure prepreg compaction the chamber is then pressurized in the range of 3,000 pounds per square inch. The chamber to insure prepreg compaction is then pressurized and as is the polysilicone polymer to a pressure in the range of 3,000 psi. At the completion of the temperature/pressure cycle, the cured product is removed from the tool.

    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for producing laminated profile strips from a plurality of rubber components destined to be used in automotive vehicle tires are disclosed. The individual rubber profile strips, formed from various mixtures are each extruded from individual extrusion devices. Each extrusion device has its own extrusion head having an appropriate nozzle outlet which delivers each strip onto its own individual roller. The edges of each strip are trimmed while it is on its roller. The rollers are disposed adjacent one another so as to define roller nips therebetween. The component strips are subsequently laminated together in the nips to form either an intermediate or final profile strip. If an intermediate strip is produced, this remains on one of the rollers and is jointly passed through a further nip between the roller on which is located and a further roller carrying either a further individual strip or a further intermediate profile strip produced in a like manner to produce the final strip.

The sheet is then pulled around the mandrel, mechanically transferring the various layers to the perimeter of the mandrel.     Abstract: Making jacketed pipe using metal strip coated with a plastic coating compatible with the jacket material. After the strip is formed into tube by turning over longitudinal edges of the strip, the jacketing material is then extruded onto the tube under an extrusion pressure insufficient to cause tube collapse. This is conveniently done by the known "tubing" process. Subsequent to the extrusion step, the jacket material is subjected to radial inward pressure also insufficient to cause tube collapse. This pressure reduces the outside diameter of the jacket and presses it against the coating on the tube. The inward pressure step is performed while residual heat from extrusion remains at the inner surface of the jacket to fuse the jacket to the plastic coating. Inward pressure is preferably applied by a polishing die.

Embedded within the bead are a plurality of high tensile strength flexible wires. The slotted inner connecting pipe of one diaphragm is introduced into the slotted outer connecting pipe of another diaphragm. An apparatus for fusing together the two connecting pipes is placed within the interior of the inner pipe and can move through the latter. The apparatus has a heating device for heating and fusing the two connecting pipes together.

By extruding the strip without base webs, a plurality such as at least four, separate complementary strips can be extruded from a single die for efficiently joining sets of the profile strips into separable fastener assemblies immediately after concurrent curing of the extruded strips and the reactivatable adhesive.

    Abstract: The purpose of the process and the apparatus of the invention is to face weld extruded thermoplastic moldings the end faces of which lie in a plane and the end face edges of which are juxtaposed in a coplanar fashion. The end faces are pressed against a heatable and coolable plate in which grooves are formed corresponding to the cross-section of the end face. The floor of the grooves is heated up to or above the melting temperature of the plastic. The entry of the grooves is thermally insulated from the floor region and, if necessary, can be cooled. When the end faces are sunk into the grooves, the plastic is melted. The plastic melt, rising in the groove, is cooled until solid in the thermally insulated entry region. Following the welding in the floor region, the floor region is cooled below the melting temperature, and the welded bundle is separated from the plate.

Top die (21) is preheated to just below the melt point of adhesive (125); then dies (21) and (54) are closed against the layered workpiece, with top die (21) contacting the face of fabric (123). A shot of superheated steam, e.g., at 80 psig and 700.degree. F., is ejected from perforations (38) and (130) to melt adhesive (125). Then a vacuum is applied to the perforations to pull ambient air through the workpiece and cool it. The resolidified ashesive (125) holds foam (124) in its deformed shape and laminates fabric (123) to the foam.

Thereafter, continuous sheets of permeable fabric material are attached to the upper and lower surfaces of the formed core while the edges of the permeable fabric are secured to one another either by adhesive, sewing or any other suitable bonding method. Next, the draining system is either cut into desired lengths or rolled for shipping purposes.
