  • Patent number: 7122092
Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying labels to products of various sizes employs a printer and applicator head using air as a propellant. Control circuitry responsive to sensors located on the apparatus position the labels on the applicator head and trigger the ejection of a label onto a target surface. Labels to be printed are continuously supplied to the printer and applicator head from a label supply strip wound on a label feed reel mounted on the apparatus. The portion of the label liner extending between the feed reel and take-up reel is provided with a detector which can detect a lag in liner tension and activate the take-up reel to restore tension each time a lag condition is detected.

The label assembly further includes a back sheet having a removable first portion generally coextensive with the label portion of the face sheet so that when the first portion is removed from the label assembly, a remaining portion of the back sheet is attached to the label portion of the face sheet. An arm is connected with respect to the base to extend over the label assembly as the label portion is applied.

Abstract: A hot-stamping foil tape cassette comprises a hot-stamping foil tape transferred by pressure application together with a value-added medium to the value-added medium and a windup reel for winding up the hot-stamping foil tape. The reel on which the hot-stamping foil tape is wound is stored in a cassette case. A shutter is included which at the time of hot-stamping transfer is in a protective position that protects the hot-stamping foil tape. The shutter at the time of hot-stamping transfer withdraws to a withdrawal position that does not interfere with action of the hot-stamping transfer. After hot-stamping, by the shutter, the hot-stamping foil tape can be peeled from the value-added medium. A foil-peeling mechanism for a hot-stamping device, a peeling method for a hot-stamping foil and a control method for a hot-stamping foil tape cassette are also disclosed.

Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for transferring a discrete portion of a first web traveling at a first speed onto a second web traveling a second speed. The apparatus includes a converting mechanism capable of forming at least one discrete portion out of the first web. An anvil roll is positioned in close proximity to the converting mechanism and can travel at a rotational speed equal to the first speed. The anvil roll is a vacuum roll that is capable of directing the discrete portion away from the converting mechanism. A transfer roll is arranged in close proximity to the anvil roll and initially travels at a rotational speed equal to the first speed. The transfer roll forms a gap with the anvil roll through which the discrete portion can pass. The transfer roll is also a vacuum roll that is capable of directing the discrete portion away from the anvil roll. The transfer roll is capable of changing rotational speed to match the second speed during a single revolution.

Abstract: A method is provided for producing double labels (1). Two large labels (7, 9) of different size, each of the labels being detachably applied to respective carriers (11, 13) by their adhesive surfaces (35, 37), are respectively detached from their carriers (11, 13), and are adhered together by their facing adhesive surfaces (35, 37). The two labels (7, 9) are dimensioned in such a way that, for the double label, a free end (5) of the adhesive surface of one label (2) protrudes beyond the other label (3). A device for producing such double labels (1) comprises a dispenser (25) for detaching the labels (7, 9) from their carriers (11, 13) and for assembling the labels and adhering them together. The dispenser (25) has parallel dispensing edges (27, 29). The double label (1) has a fixed element, which can be written or printed on, and a free, flexible element (5) for fixing the double label (1) to an object to be labeled or to another carrier strip.

Abstract: The present invention is a method and apparatus conveying a roll of liner stock bearing removably adhered components such as labels. The liner is pulled through the feeder by a capstan drive having opposed fluted nip rollers driven by a stepper motor. Advance of the stepper motor is controlled by a programmable electronic controller. The linered labels are led through a tensioner and around an acute-angle peeler edge which separates the labels from the liner. The peeling action advances a label onto a platform comprising a bed of rollers having an inherently low-adherence surface. Preferably the rollers are undercut to form circumferential ridges and reduce the surface area in contact with the label adhesive and to minimize adherence thereto. When peeling of a label is completed, the label has been advanced onto the roller bed to precisely the proper location for acquisition by a pick-and-place machine.

  • Patent number: 6712923
Abstract: An apparatus and method for manufacturing a solid polymer film with a catalyst sufficiently deposited thereon preheats a solid polymer film and then hot presses this solid polymer film together with a catalyst carrier film. Hot pressing the solid polymer film while it is soft from preheating increases the bond strength between the solid polymer film and the catalyst such that separation of the catalyst from the solid polymer film during film separation can be prevented. Moreover, keeping the catalyst carrier film cool prior to hot pressing and making the temperature on the catalyst carrier film side slightly lower that than on the solid polymer film side during hot pressing inhibits an increase in binding strength between the film and the catalyst, and thereby improves separation of the film.
