  • Patent number: 5443678
Abstract: The process relates to the production of a product consisting of a substrate to which an adhesive with long-term effect and a protective band are attached to permit use of the adhesive to be deferred. The process is characterized by the use of a substrate whose surface to which the adhesive is attached may present irregularities. The adhesive is heated to a temperature at which is becomes paste-like and almost liquid, and is brought to an opening situated above a plane surface on which the substrate has been placed. The adhesive is then caused to flow simultaneously with a relative movement between the substrate and the opening. This results in the adhesive being deposited on the substrate as a strand that is preferably continuous. The temperature of the adhesive is then lowered in order to increase its viscosity until it becomes paste-like to the point of turning solid.

Abstract: A flame resistant to nonflammable composite panel (86) is produced from a nonextrudable core mixture (24) with a pourable, nonflammable filling material and a binder, and on both sides cover strips flexibly bonded to the core. For a continuous production of the composite panel (86) in one operation, the core mixture (24) is poured onto an inrunning lower cover strip (48), in contact with a lower adhesive film (16) facing the core mixture (24), and a pile is formed there, extending over the entire width of the adhesive film, both [lacuna] continuously and uniformly drawn through a V gap (40) and compacted there for the first time and calibrated to thickness, an upper adhesive film (30), upwardly limiting the precompacted core mixture (24'), is fed in and brought into contact with a continuously fed cover strip (46) and the sandwich is pressed with further compaction, heated, cooled and cut to the final length of the composite panel (86).

  • Patent number: 5350554
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing light-weight construction panels having a cementitious core layer surfaced with a layer of reinforcing fabric bonded to the two faces of the core includes the use of slurry applicator having a supporting member and a doctor in addition to a moving carrier for the slurry coated fabric. The edges of the panel also are covered with the fabric and may be open mesh edges. Cementitious slurry, for example, portland cement slurry, is applied to the fabric by means of a supporting member over which the fabric is drawn and a doctor means adjustably mounted above the supporting member. The supporting member is of a non-base-reactive material such as polypropylene or stainless steel; the use of such a supporting member permits better application of the slurry to the fabric before placement of the slurry coated fabric on the moving carrier.

Abstract: A heatable shoe for a joint welding apparatus for overlapping joint welding of asphalt roofing is designed in such a way that it will be able to produce a wave of liquid asphalt in an opening or slit between a front and a rear part of the shoe, thereby producing a maximum quantity of liquid asphalt inwards to a line approximately in the center of the overlapping portions between the roofing webs. This is where the mechanical fasteners are located, which are thus baked or embedded in and sealed by in liquid asphalt in a favorable manner.

  • Patent number: 5167754
Abstract: A cohesive layered sheet of thermoplastic fiber material formed by two outer layers of material, each outer layer having a standard full width, and an inner layer made from strips of scrap material. The strips of scrap material each have a width substantially less than the standard full width and are arranged side-by-side so as to have a combined width approximately equal to a standard full width. The layers are ultrasonically bonded together so as to form a cohesive layered sheet. A method and apparatus are provided for manufacturing such a sheet.

  • Patent number: 5139603
Abstract: A nested fiberglass structure (10) comprises a plurality of strips (66) each in the shape of a sinusoidal wave (20). The waves (20) have peaks (22) and valleys (24) which have equal amplitudes about a central axis (26). A positioning string (32) is placed over the peaks (22) and into the valleys (24) to provide a guide for the depth of penetration of adjacent strips during nesting of the strips (66). The structure (10) may be formed on an apparatus for manufacturing (46) which forms a continuous web (48) into the strips (66) and nests the strips (66) into the structure (10). The structure (10) may then be wound onto a reel (154) for fabrication into a cylindrical structure (34). The apparatus (136) spirally winds the nested structure (10) around a mandrel (182) to form the cylindrical structure (34).

  • Patent number: 5122220
Abstract: A mechanism for adjusting a distance between a glue machine and an introducing port of a heating port in a double facer corrugating machine is provided for the purpose of optimizing a penetrated amount of applied paste into a core paper sheet to insure a sticking force between a single-faced corrugated cardboard sheet and a liner. The distance adjusting mechanism includes guide rails and traveling wheels provided in the glue machine and running along the guide rails. In one aspect of the invention, the glue machine is adjustably moved along the guide rails by means of a hydraulic cylinder connected between the glue machine and a stationary frame, and in another aspect of the invention, the glue machine is adjustably driven along the guide rails by means of an electric motor mounted to the glue machine for driving the traveling wheels.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying an elastic ribbon in a curved path to a continuously moving web of material. A rotatable roll is moved essentially transversely to the direction of the moving web of material. The movement of the roll is imparted to the elastic ribbon which is then adhered to the continuously moving web of material. The elastic ribbon passes around the roll with a predetermined stretch.
