  • Patent number: 6451138
Abstract: The invention is a method, and its accompanying apparatus, for charging and discharging short-cycle and/or coating presses with layered pressing material. In order to reduce the charging and discharging times, the method entails inserting a first transport device, or charging device, having a plurality of clamping devices into a charging region and inserting a second transport device having a plurality of suction devices into a pressing chamber, wherein the first and second transport devices are inserted transverse to a longitudinal central axis from a pair of supply axes to a pair of charging and discharging axes. The pressing material is clamped in the charging region and a plate is accepted in the pressing chamber; the first transport device is then moved into the pressing chamber and the second transport devices into a discharging region.

Abstract: A segmented platen for heat-sealing a film material to a non-planar surface of an ink jet printer cartridge includes a heat-transferring housing having sidewalls defining an internal cavity and a first aperture. Heat-transferring segments, which partially protrude through the first aperture of the housing, are operable to independently move in relation to the housing and each other in a direction substantially parallel to the sidewalls of the housing. Biasing devices, corresponding in number to the segments, independently urge the segments through the first aperture of the housing, thereby urging the segments to follow any curvature in the non-planar surface of the ink jet printer cartridge. The platen further includes a heating element for generating and transferring heat into the housing. The segments receive the heat from the housing, and transfer the heat into the underlying film.

Before the workpiece is pressed by the retainer, the end portions of plate springs protrude further toward the workpiece than the retaining surface of the workpiece retainer. When the workpiece is pressed by the retainer, the plate springs undergo elastic deformation and are pulled in the direction opposite from the workpiece so that the workpiece is pressed against a heat block by the retaining surface of the workpiece retainer; and when the workpiece is conveyed, the workpiece retainer is separated from the workpiece by a predetermined distance so that the plate springs undergo elastic recovery, thus preventing the workpiece from contacting the workpiece retainer.

Abstract: In a method for the thermal bonding of a base part (3) of a packaging with a cover film (F), especially for the welding or sealing of a base part of a packaging for contact lenses with a cover film, the contact surface of the base part (3) facing the cover film (F) and the corresponding contact surface of the cover film (F) facing the base part are mechanically pressed against one another along a join. While the mechanical pressure is being generated along the join, heat is simultaneously caused to act on the join, so that the contact surfaces of base part (3) and cover film (F) are thermally bonded to one another along the join. For the purpose of generating the mechanical pressure and causing heat to act on the join there is used a contact plate (70) of low heat capacity which, during the thermal bonding, is pressed against the surface of the cover film (F) remote from the contact surface.

  • Patent number: 6391133
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and method for controlling a heat bonding process in a heat bonding apparatus. The temperature is sensed at an interface between the pressing means and the article to be pressed and a signal processing means detects a rapid change in temperature at the interface to provide a start-of-cycle signal indicating initiation of the heat bonding cycle. The signal processing means then detects the attainment of pre-set temperature reached at the interface to provide an end-of-cycle signal signifying the completion of the heat bonding cycle. The heat bonding apparatus may comprise a heat seal press, a heat fusion machine, apparatus for transfer printing and fusion, apparatus for hot melt printing, thermal fixing apparatus, apparatus for the lamination of, for example, two substrates via hot melt adhesives in which the substrates are held in position by means of clamps or frames, and moulds for the curing of materials, such as, for example, rubber.

The outline of the area of the elastic member contacting the semiconductor device is substantially identical to the outline of an adhesive layer. The semiconductor device and the support frame are superposed via the adhesive layer and pressed against each other, the support frame being heated by the pressing stage. Thus, the semiconductor device is bonded to the support frame via the adhesive layer. The satin finish on the surface of the elastic member prevents the elastic member from sticking to the seniconductor device.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a bonded friction product, such as an automobile brake shoe, and apparatus therefor, includes forming a plastic inner lining element of uncured or green thermosetting resin binder containing friction modifiers and reinforcements and bonding the element to a shoe platform by way of an adhesive resin in a heat and pressure regime which cures the resin binder and adhesive. The need for a closed mold and/or venting stops is avoided by a stabilizing press (50) which includes a heated bed (53) between guide plates (56, 57) that has a recess (52) of less thickness than the lining element (16) to receive such lining element in its green state. The guide plates are spaced slightly further apart than the width of a shoe platform which is, having been preheated, brought down onto the lining element and pressed by a pneumatic ram (70), the loosely sliding shoe body (11) comprising a non-sealing closure member of the press.

The apparatus includes two opposing laminating assemblies symmetrically mounted in mirror image relation on opposing sides of a substrate supply path. Individual sheets of laminate are cut from webs of lamina and transferred onto the card substrate at a convergence zone disposed on the substrate supply path. Each of the laminating assemblies includes a web of lamina, a cutter, and nip rollers disposed between the web and the cutter. The nip rollers advance the web in an upstream direction through the cutter into engagement with a transfer roller. • Patent number: 6245180
Abstract: Methods for forming a lined brake shoe having a curved brake lining attached to a table of the lined brake shoe. The curved brake lining is manufactured by molding a flat sheet of brake lining material in a partially polymerized state. This flat sheet is allowed to cool prior to be positioned within a press having warmed dies. The warm dies of the press form the curved brake lining while holding the curved brake lining in its desired shape. The warm dies restart the polymerization process. When further polymerization has been completed the curved lining is removed from the press. One embodiment places the table of the lined brake shoe in the press. Then, by adding a bonding material, the completed lined brake shoe can be manufactured while the polymerization process continues in the press.
