  • Publication number: 20080201901
Abstract: Spheric joint or spherical hinge (30; 130) for coupling together two members that are spatially orientable relative to each other, in which a head (84; 184) of the first member (80; 180) is retained in an accommodation (46; 146) of the second member (40; 140) by at least four points of contact located on a spherical surface according to the vertices of a pyramid containing the centre thereof, about which said head (84; 184) is adapted to rotate without translating. The hinge is characterized in that said accommodation (46; 146) or said head (84; 184) has a projecting boss (52; 152) confined in a gap (85; 186) of said head (84; 184) or said accommodation (46; 146), said gap (85; 186) having at least two consecutive distinct spaces (85a, 85b; 187, 188) that define a travelling path (85; 186) for said boss (52; 152).

Abstract: A novel hinge assembly for eyeglasses is provided wherein a first structural member for the hinge structure is formed in a first molding step and a second structural member of the hinge structure is formed directly over a portion of the first structural member in a second molding step. The present invention utilizes in-mold-assembly techniques to reduce the assembly steps required to form such a hinge assembly while further resulting in a hinge assembly that has increased adjustability and utility. Specifically, the overmolded components form a ball and socket type joint allowing a large degree of lateral rotation in one direction and a limited amount of freedom in a second direction. This hinge allows the temple portion of the eyeglasses to be folded against the brow bar and the inclination angle between the temples and the brow bar to be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 6994434
Abstract: The eyewear described comprises a lens having, at opposite lateral sides thereof, a pair of detachable ear stems which are adapted to move from an inwardly folded position to an outwardly ear contacting position. The lens displays, at each lateral side, an opening and a stem connecting portion that defines a hinge element forming an integral part of the lens. The proximal end portion of the ear stem defines a U-shaped recess which is engageable with the hinge element. The recess is formed by a pair of resilient branches which, together with a constriction at the entry of the recess, enables a snap-in engagement and a snap-out disengagement of the ear stem to and from the lens. No additional component is required for this three-piece eyewear.

  • Patent number: 6929365
Abstract: A wireless ad hoc pico network is formed by eyewear and other devices such as a computer, a bracelet and a telephone having similar transceivers mounted on them. Master slave relationships are configurable. Other devices, such as a radio, a CD player, a hand held global positioning satellite system and a heart rate monitor, having similar transceivers, can also be connected with the transceiver of the eyewear. The transceivers operate on globally available, unlicensed radio band, 2.45 gigahertz (GHz) and conforms to the Bluetooth standard. The power consumption of Bluetooth enabled devices is less than three percent of the power consumption of a mobile phone. The eyewear includes a frame and connected to the frame are two temples. Temples are connected to frame via hinges. Temples have a male portion of a connector incorporated in them. Female portion of the connector is made integral with the hinges. When the male portion is inserted in the female portion the temple is attached to the frame.
