  • Patent number: 5956809
Abstract: A hinge structure composed of a supporting hinge and aligning hinge. The supporting hinge is composed of a first and second part one of which has a first bearing with a spherical bearing portion the other a cooperating seat and preferably a cylindrical bearing surface opening therefrom. The first bearing cooperates with seat and the cylindrical bearing surface to support and prevent relative lateral movement of the first part while permitting rotational movement. The aligning hinge is formed of a second bearing having spherical bearing surface portion and a second hinge portion with a cylindrical bearing portion adapted to receive the second bearing in mating relation to permit rotation around the spherical axis of its spherical portion while preventing lateral movement.

  • Patent number: 5906028
Abstract: A hinge assembly for use with an expandable performance platform that allows relative independent pivotal movement between its first or extension panels and its adjacent second or base panel. The hinge assembly allows the extension panels to lay atop the base panels for storage or transport by providing movement of the pivot axis as the extension panel is pivoted. The hinge assembly also provides a flat performance area with a minimum of gaps along its abutting edges when the extension panels are in a performance mode.

  • Patent number: 5815886
Abstract: A hinge device is provided for pivoting a cover to a base housing and is designed such that when the cover is in a closed position it does not easily come off the base housing when subjected to external force yet the cover is easily and readily removable for replacement. The hinge device has an engagement hole 12c disposed on a housing 12 to pivotably support a cover 13 around a pivot axis, an engagement portion 13a is disposed on cover 13 to rotatably fit in the engagement hole and is formed relatively short so that it can easily disengage from engagement hole 12c when an impact is received. An arcuate guide groove 12d is formed on the housing around the engagement hole so that a guide pin 13b on the cover can engage with the guide groove to guide cover movement between open and closed positions as well as aid in absorbing impact forces acting on the cover when the cover is closed.

  • Patent number: 5761768
Abstract: The present invention is a flexible hinge assembly. The hinge component includes a flexible body having a flange extending lengthwise down each side. The body has a groove cut into it extending lengthwise. The body is inserted into an opening in a frame until the flanges engage the upper surface of the frame. Halfway across the opening, two thin bars extend from each end. These bars enter the groove in the top of the flexible body as it is inserted in the opening, thereby holding the flanges in contact with the surface of the frame. The flexible body may be directly attached to an article to be hinged or it may be connected to an attachment device.

  • Patent number: 5588182
Abstract: A durable, economical, and aesthetically pleasing terminal enclosure (2) for housing standardized terminal blocks (50). The terminal enclosure (2) includes a base section (30) formed as an open-faced trough with integral perpendicular end panels (24, 34). The terminal enclosure (2) also has a pair of gull-wing doors (10, 20) which may be closed to cover the base section (30). The doors (10, 20) are formed with a curvature to provide a continuous arching cover over the base section (30), and a plurality of legs (12-1 . . . 5, 22-1 . . . 5) is angled downwardly and inwardly from each door for pivotal attachment to the underside of the base section (30). The combined curvature of the legs (12-1 . . . 5, 22-1 . . . 5) and the doors (10, 20) allows opening without a need for frontal clearance. In addition, the legs (12-1 . . . 5, 22-1 . . . 5) are pivoted to the base section (30) in such a way that they may be locked in the full-open position, thereby freeing both hands for servicing.
