Having Plural Spaced Hinge Axes Patents (Class 16/311)
  • Patent number: 11131132
Abstract: A hinge has a first component that pivotally supports a second component of the hinge. The first hinge component carries an energy harvesting switch having a movable operator such as a spring-projected plunger that is positioned to be depressed or otherwise moved by the second hinge component in response to relative pivotal movement of the first and second hinge components. If a gate is fastened to the second hinge component, at least some of the weight of the gate is transferred from the second hinge component to the first hinge component. When the gate is pivoted away from a closed orientation toward an open orientation, the second hinge component moves the operator of the energy harvesting switch thereby causing the energy harvesting switch to emit a radio frequency signal.

  • Patent number: 10415290
Abstract: A gate apparatus having an automatically returning gate, an upper latch operated by an upper button, and a lower latch operated by an upper finger handle. Each of the latches must be opened to open the gate. The gate returns without the aid of a spring to a position close to the closed position or to the closed position by the structure of a pivot or hinge connection between the gate and the frame of the gate. Gate tubes are rectangular in section for their entire length. Wood panels are included in the gate and excluded from other portions of the gate apparatus to make the gate stand out to the user seeking to open the gate.

  • Publication number: 20040068842
Abstract: The present invention is a hinge for furniture that includes a first hinge part rotatably connected with a second hinge part via at least one hinge axis. The first hinge part has a substantially U-shaped cross-section with its legs on one end having free ends that point toward a piece of the furniture. The free ends have fastening flanges bent laterally in a plane substantially parallel to the piece of furniture. A first area of the legs being expandable at free ends of the legs creating a trapezoidal cross-section when the flanges are mounted to the piece of furniture, and the legs have a resulting cambered construction. A second area of the legs being substantially parallel, and the at least one hinge axis being located in this second area.

  • Patent number: 5265311
Abstract: For swingably mounting a door on a jamb, a dual action self closing hinge has a stationary component which seals, shields, and carries a stationary cam and a rotatable cam follower. The cam elements cooperate with one another to displace the cam follower and attached door panel upwardly during an opening movement and permit the automatic downward movement of the cam follower and door panel upon release of the door panel from an open position. Simultaneous with the cam action, an offset hinge mechanism elevates the center of gravity of the door panel during opening, and likewise provides for the automatic return of the door panel to the closed position to improve the self-closing action of the door. In addition, a cam angular position lock enables the closed position of the door relative to the jamb to be easily adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4474348
Abstract: A simple, compact, cantilever-type spring (31) is mounted on the aircraft body structure (22) and is positioned so as to be deflected from its normally unstressed condition to a stressed state (31') by means of a radially projecting roller (39) mounted on and carried by the body-mounted torque tube (35) during at least the final increment of movement of the aircraft door (20) when it is being shifted to its fully opened position so as to store energy in the spring (31) for assisting in closing of the door (20) and counterbalancing the hinge moment attributable to the weight of the door (20) when the door is moving upslope during a door closing operation and for thereby minimizing the exertion of the on-board flight attendant (29) who is required to apply torque manually by pulling upwardly and outwardly thereon to overcome the door hinge moment until such time that the door (20) begins its downslope travel about the canted hinge axis (35).

  • Patent number: 4337548
Abstract: A self-closing double hinging apparatus includes an upper hinge, a lower hinge and a reinforcing bar welded to both the upper hinge and the lower hinge to maintain them in predetermined alignment. A gate is attached to the reinforcing bar. The upper hinge includes a horizontal plate attached to a gate post. The horizontal plate has a hole therein. A bearing having a ball surface attached to the top of the reinforcing bar swivelably engaged and is supported by a beveled surface surrounding the hole. The lower hinge includes three leaves and two pivot pins. One end of the first leaf is rigidly attached to the gate port. One end of the second leaf is pivotally connected to a first end of the second leaf by means of the first pivot pin, which is aligned with the bearing. The second end of the second hinge is pivotally connected to one end of the third leaf by means of the second pivot pin, which is also aligned with the bearing. The other end of the third leaf is rigidly attached to the reinforcing bar.
