  • Publication number: 20030200628
Abstract: The invention relates to a unique door hinge which does not employ pin receiving knuckles which are normally us in more conventional hinges. The unique hinge, provides two hinge leafs, the first of which has a flat web which terminates at an open end loop which is coextensive with the web and defines a space for matingly receiving a head portion which is at the termination of the web of the second leaf. The head portion is rotatable within the loop portion and is segmented by longitudinally spaced spaces for receiving plastic bearings which facilitate rotation of the hinge and support the movable hinge leaf relative to the fixed hinge leaf of a normally mounted door hinge.

  • Patent number: 5987858
Abstract: A movable retaining wall is used in a first position in a compression baler to retain a compressed mass, such as microfibers, and is then moved to a second position into an opening in a wall of a packaging chamber filling the opening such that a gap between the edges of the interior surface of the retaining wall and the edges of the opening is too small to allow the compressed material to enter the gap when it passes through the packaging chamber and past the gap. To accomplish this requires the use of hidden hinges to guide the retaining wall as it moves from the first position to the second position and back to the first position. The hidden hinges allow the retaining wall to move essentially straight out of the opening in the wall of the packaging chamber before it begins to pivot towards the second position, thus allowing the tight fit.

Abstract: A hidden hinge mechanism is provided for mounting a door to a jamb in a door frame. The hinge mechanism may be formed of one or more pairs of body elements, sleeves, and a slide element. The body elements are formed as cylindrical barrels with arcuate cavities defined therewithin. These cavities have a circular curvature centered on a vertical axis of rotation that lies beyond the door and frame. The sleeve elements are hollow and also formed as arcuate structures that are mounted to move within the cavities in the cylindrical body elements in reciprocal fashion relative thereto. The sleeves move between closed positions retracted completely into the body elements and extended positions projecting therefrom. The arcuate slide has opposing ends that are respectively mounted to the sleeve elements in telescoping fashion. The slide moves between an extreme open position withdrawn from the sleeves and an extreme closed position encapsulated within them.

  • Patent number: 4913463
Abstract: Interleaving troughs (28-30) are securely fixed to a front cover (12) and a back cover (14) of a hinged apparatus (10). The first and second troughs (28-30) are generally semicircular in shape and are dimensioned to slidably cooperate with each other. A gap (34) is formed between the second trough (30) and the back cover (14) to receive the first trough (28) when the apparatus (10) is in a fully opened position. When the apparatus (10) is closed, first and second troughs (28-30) form a generally cylindrical container (36) for holding a wire spiral (26) of a book (20). When the apparatus (10) is closed, a void (38) of less than 3/16 inch is formed between the first and second troughs (28-30). The void (38) meets the ASTM standards for toy safety with regard to a pinching hazard.

  • Patent number: 4852213
Abstract: A pinless releasable hinge assembly has complementary curved mating surfaces on first and second members, one of the members being hingedly swingable along a generally arcuate path relative to the other member which remains stationary from a closed configuration through a plurality of open configurations defined along said arcuate path; at a limiting release configuration in the arcuate path the swingable member is releasably removable but is captive until the limiting release configuration is reached; a resilient gasket associated with one of the members resiliently, sealingly engages an abutment surface on the other member, in the closed configuration; the hinge assembly can be employed for ready release of a door mounted on one of the members, from an opening, at which the other member is mounted; the gasket forms a tight seal which does not interfere with the operation of the hinge or ready release feature.

The tubular wall of one hinge plate member is inserted in the tubular wall of another hinge plate member with at least some non-congruent portions whereby the inner tubular wall can be rotated within the outer tubular wall. The outer tubular wall is open and has at its open edge a substantially straight lower end wall portion. When the inner hinge plate member strikes against the substantially straight lower end wall portion of the outer hinge plate member the plates are retained in the end angular position, and further angular displacement of the hinge plate members relative to each other is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4832394
Abstract: This invention is directed to a truck cargo bed cover system which includes a hinge assembly for pivotally and removably connecting at least one cover panel member to a truck having a cargo bed. The subject hinge assembly comprises hinge support means attached to the truck for pivotally connecting each of the cover panel members to the truck. The cover panel member, in a closed position, covers the truck cargo bed and, in an open position, permits access to the cargo bed. Hinge connector means are joined to a first side of each cover panel member for pivotally and removably connecting and disconnecting the cover panel member, respectively, to and from the hinge support means. Each hinge connector means is therefore readily connectable to and disconnectable from the hinge support means for readily attaching and removing the cover panel member from the truck.
