    Abstract: A hinge system for deploying panels or other structures from a satellite or spacecraft has at least two configurations. The panels are held in a substantially stacked disposition in the stowed configuration by the hinge system which connects to each panel and includes an intermediate arm sized to span any necessary space between the two panels in the stowed configuration. A deployment cable is attached to one of the panels and threaded over a series of pulleys disposed on the hinge system and onto a spool in the other panel. When the spool is driven to wind the deployment cable onto it, the tension in the cable pulls on the pulleys, causing the hinge to unfold and then slide into a housing located on one of the panels. This deployed configuration allows the panels to be held aligned and directly adjacent to one another by the tension of the deployment cable.

    Abstract: A hinge assembly for casement windows is shown and described. The hinge assembly includes a slide block for connection to the sash arm that includes a reinforcing plate that extends downward before extending upward and around the flange of the track overhang. A larger undercut portion is provided beneath the reinforcing plate for added clearance between the slide block and fasteners used to secure the track to the window sill. The hinge assembly also includes a pivot base which is pivotally connected to the shorter tie bar or toggle link. The position of the pivot base with respect to the track can be adjusted as a means for compensating for sash sag. An additional hole is also provided to provide new anchorage in the case of a sash sag adjustment or additional anchorage for use in high wind areas. The pivot base also includes a quick disconnect retainer disposed beneath the pivot base and between the pivot base and the track and thereby hidden from plain view.

    Abstract: An adjustable hinge assembly is comprised of a track to which is secured a slide member. A sash arm is secured at one end to the slide member and all along to a horizontal rail of a hinged window sash. A support arm is pivotally connected to the sash arm at one end thereof and pivotally connected to an adjustable connector at the other end. The improvement resides in the construction of the adjustable connector which is comprised of a stationary connecting post extending from a concentric circular disc and about which is positioned an adjustable nut. The nut is connected to the free end of the support arm and the top portion of the post is secured to the support arm by a sliding clip which is easily engaged and disengaged. Both the adjustable nut and the post are constructed from brass making them self-lubricating. The nut is also positioned in tight fit over the post whereby, when the nut is rotated to a desired position to adjust the position of the support arm, it will maintain the said position.

    Abstract: A permanent locking device for a nuclear waste container which, in combination with a lid and a box, utilizes a dee-shaped ring held by a wide, flat hinge and a protruding narrow malleable metal retaining strap. The ring can rotate or slide up and down within the hinge, as well as slide side to side. The hinge has a slot in its top for temporarily holding the ring in an up position while the lid is open and the box is being loaded with nuclear waste. When the lid is closed and the ring is disengaged from the slot, the ring can be quickly dropped to a down position permitting the retaining strap to extend through the ring. The retaining strap can then be readily bent down and over the circular (bottom) portion of the ring, to form a permanent seal. A deformable rubber gasket is positioned between the lid and the top edges of the box to form an air tight seal.
