By using an auxiliary wheel lock plate and a fixed spring, the lock can also be blocked in normal circumstances. The auxiliary wheel can be suspended in the air and the movable shaft always faces toward the motion direction. In this way, the baby walker will not fall on a hollow ground (such as stairs) and will automatically stop sliding on a slope, with the lock block blocking the auxiliary wheel ratchet and auxiliary wheel friction surface.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1993Date of Patent: December 13, 1994Inventors: Yeong-Shing Chern, Miin-Tsang Sheu

Patent number: 5371921Abstract: A caster for supporting an object on wheels is provided with a brake that is operable between engageable and disengageable positions. The brake alternatively restricts and permits rotation of the caster wheel relative to a moveable swivel element. The brake includes a brake pad operated by movement of an operating member located externally on the operating components of the caster. A detent system provides detents for alternatively holding the brake in both the engaged and disengaged positions.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1993Date of Patent: December 13, 1994Assignees: American Caster Corporation, American Caster CorporationInventor: Forrest Roe

Patent number: 5323887Abstract: A luggage case has a bottom wall supported on four swivel wheels that permit the luggage case to be turned in any direction about a vertical axis. Two of the swivel wheels are part of a leading wheel assembly, and two of the swivel wheels are part of a trailing wheel assembly. Each wheel assembly has a one-piece molded plastic base including an elongated plate extending transversely of the bottom wall of the luggage case and attached thereto, and a pair of downwardly open protective cups surrounding respective swivel wheels. A retractable handle system includes a fixed portion mounted on the top wall of the case, and a movable portion having a handle that may be extended and tilted upwardly for pulling the case along the ground.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1992Date of Patent: June 28, 1994Assignee: York Partners, L.P.Inventors: Paul V. Patent number: 5305496Abstract: A caster has two spaced apart wheels with an elastomeric torsional shock and vibration isolating suspension between them. The wheel axis is spaced longitudinally from a bearing axis to subject elastomeric disks positioned between the wheels to torsional shear stresses to help absorb shocks and vibrations. A snubber is provided for limiting the angular motion of the wheels about a bearing axis.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1992Date of Patent: April 26, 1994Assignee: Applied Power Inc.Inventors: Paul R. Patent number: 5276942Abstract: A roller mechanism for supporting an article on a support surface for selective movement thereon. The roller mechanism including a support member rotatably connected to the article to be supported, a bearing for providing antifriction rotation between the support member and the article to be supported, an axle or axles connected to the support member, and a plurality of roller elements mounted about the support member in a generally circular pattern, each roller element being independently rotatable about an axle.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1992Date of Patent: January 11, 1994Assignee: Shepherd Products U.S., Inc.Inventors: Michael H. Patent number: 5276941Abstract: The present invention provides a device for mounting a pair of casters to a tubular segment of a structure of a stroller. The mounting device consists of a first sleeve, a second sleeve and a cushion. Generally, the first sleeve is securely attached to a tubular segment of a structure of a stroller by means of a rivet or the like. The second sleeve pivotally receives the first sleeve, thereby permitting them to rotate relative to each other. The cushion consists of a cap-like element, a spring and a plug. The cap-like element has two slots longitudinally extending therein. The plug has a hole transversely extending therethrough. The cap-like element is securely connected with the second sleeve. The spring is received in the cap-like element. The plug is also received in the cap-like element. A shaft on which a pair of casters rotate is inserted through the slots in the cap-like element and the hole of the plug, whereby the spring is sandwiched-between the top in the cap-like element and the plug.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1992Date of Patent: January 11, 1994Inventor: Li C. Patent number: 5244531Abstract: To fasten a seam of sheet material, a seam roller is positioned over a seam of roofing material having overlapping portions of sheets of roofing material which are forced together as rollers pass over. Each of a plurality of rollers is mounted to rotate around a horizontal roller axis in circumferentially spaced apart relationship with each other at an angle to the radii of their circles of rotation, which circle is in a plane at an angle to the horizontal. With this arrangement, the rollers apply a forward pulling action on the seam roller, and apply a pressure to the sheet material in a sweeping motion that removes air.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1991Date of Patent: September 14, 1993Assignee: W-W Sales, IncorporatedInventor: Phillip W. Patent number: 5144717Abstract: A double wheel caster for being rotatably mounted on a leg of a transport carrier includes a support rod having a center portion and opposite first and second end portions. The center portion of the support rod is rotatably positioned within an opening located in a wheel caster trailing housing. A pair of caster wheels are rotatably positioned on the first and second end portions of the support rod. Each caster wheel has an aperture generally centrally located therethrough and a plurality of fingers extending radially inward and into engagement with the support rod such that the caster wheels are frictionally mounted on the support rod. Upon movement of the transport carrier in a direction which forces one caster wheel to rotate faster than the other, the frictional mounting inhibits the one caster from freely rotating with respect to the other to thereby prevent shimmying.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 1991Date of Patent: September 8, 1992Assignee: Graco Metal Products, Inc.Inventors: Devon T. Patent number: 5119525Abstract: The self-orientatable twin castor has a support made of plastics for a pair of coaxial wheels. The support is constituted by a tubular hub with which a substantially semicircular wall, arranged in the median plane of the castor, is rigidly associated in a perpendicular manner. A semi-cylindrical casing made of metal is associated with the edge of the wall and has wings for positioning and retaining it on the edge of the semi-circular wall.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1991Date of Patent: June 9, 1992Assignee: Emilsider Meccanica S.p.A.Inventor: Francescantonio Melara

Patent number: 5083341Abstract: A twin caster, in particular a steering caster, having a carrier (3), wheels, and a vertical mounting pin (22), the wheels being held via an axle (6) on the carrier (3) and the carrier (3) supporting the mounting pin (22), a brake element (32) being furthermore arranged on the carrier (3). For simplified construction, easier assembly, and a development which takes up high brake forces without damage, the carrier (3) is developed in disk shape and have an opening (39) for lateral insertion in the form of a plug/back-grip connection for the brake element which is developed as brake ram (32).Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1990Date of Patent: January 28, 1992Assignee: Tente-Rollen GmbH & Co.Inventors: Manfred Milbredt, Wolfgang Block

Patent number: 5078221Abstract: A steering roller arrangement for a trackless floor vehicle in the form of a so-called three-wheeled vehicle is described. With this vehicle, in addition to two running wheels, a steering roller is provided which can be swiveled about a vertical axis by means of a ring mount for traveling in a curved line and to achieve a trailing effect. Relative to the rotatable part of the ring mount, the steering roller is movable between two opposite trailing positions such that, with a reversal of the direction of travel, the required alteration of the steering roller trailing effect is brought about by a corresponding adjustment of the steering roller. In this way uncontrolled veering of the vehicle is avoided which occur with conventional three-wheeled vehicles on account of the rotation of the steering roller by 180.degree. caused by the trailing effect of the steering roller. The steering roller is expediently displaceable in a straight line by a linear guide between the two trailing positions.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1989Date of Patent: January 7, 1992Assignee: Hoechst AktiengesellschaftInventor: Siegfried Rewitzer
