    Abstract: An improved sliding cover assembly for converting the open body of a truck, or the like, to a closed body. The assembly comprises an articulated-type cover slidably mounted in a pair of parallel tracks of C-shaped cross-section, each of the said tracks having a lengthwise coextensive channel communicating with the interior space of the open body. The cover includes a plurality of rectangular panels successively disposed adjacent to one another and extending across said open body. Each panel includes a first semi-cylindrical edge portion and a second, semi-cylindrical edge portion having a radius larger than the radius of the first edge portion, said first edge portion being concentric with, and rotatably received by, said second edge portion of the adjacent panel, the successive panels preferably being alternately wide and narrow, whereby the cover may be wound into a space-saving rolled configuration for storage when the cover is slid to its open position.

    Abstract: An expandable door features vertically telescoping door sections, having flexible wire guides to insure engagement of the door sections during raising and lowering operations, with a minimum of physical contact and force exerted between adjacent sections. The wire guides are uniquely shaped to assure engagement of the door sections, even when said sections become misaligned; this unique shape also allows ease of constructions and repair. The door sections may be either generally U-shaped or L-shaped, and nest one within the other when the door is opened.

    Abstract: Closure of the opening for a fireplace or the like is effected by a plurality of plates or panels which are stored in stacked relation in a housing above the fireplace opening when not in use. The housing includes a biasing arrangement for maintaining pressure against the top of the panel stack so as to urge the panels towards a downwardly opening slot in the rear of the housing. A pair of channel members communicate with the housing slot and are affixed on either side of the opening. The bottom panel of the stack includes an externally accessible handle or the like for sliding this panel into the channels. A series of edge hooks cooperate to serially withdraw the panels from the housing and likewise cooperate to urge the panels serially back into the housing.

    Abstract: A protective cover system for use in connection with guiding paths of machine tools including a plurality of overlapping cover plates telescopically moved into and out of each other while each cover plate at its front end face rests on the guiding path and at the rear end rests on the next segmental cover plate. Between the individual cover plates there are arranged energy storing means the return force of which is zero in the intermediate position of said energy storing means whereas the return force of said energy storing means is at its maximum in the fully pulled-out or pushed-in position of said cover plates. Each energy storing means includes a cylinder with an inserted elastic body and a piston. Between the cylinders and the piston at least one cam segment is provided. Relative movement between the cylinder and the pertaining cam segment is brought about by fork-shaped rods linked with the arms of said fork-shaped rods to the front end faces of the cover plates.

    Abstract: For use in connection with a machine tool or the like a covering device comprising a plurality of telescopically interengaging cover boxes movable relative to each other and provided with a sealing lip forming part of a profile of elastic material. This profile comprises a head end which includes the sealing lip and is bevelled on its outside and also includes an anchoring web which engages a gap defined by the respective adjacent cover box and a respective adjacent carrier part. The lower surface of the carrier part forms the supporting surface for the respective cover box for conveying the weight of the latter onto the surface of the respective cover box therebelow. The anchoring web inserted into the gap has associated therewith teeth engaging corresponding teeth provided in the carrier part.
