Patent number: 4386646Abstract: A folding door having panels pivoted about vertical axes, top and bottom pivot assemblies, the bottom assembly comprising a bracket mountable beneath the door. The bracket defines a track along which a pivot block is guided. A sleeve is mounted in a vertical opening of the door and a pivot pin threaded into the sleeve, which pin is vertically adjustable relative to the door. The block has a vertical opening therein and the pivot pin has a lower end thereof extending therethrough. The pin and block have vertical teeth which are engaged when the pin is moved relatively downward onto said block and are disengaged when the pin is moved relatively upwardly. The pivot block and the bracket have vertically engageable teeth such that when the block is moved downwardly onto the bracket, the teeth are engaged, and when moved upwardly, the teeth are disengaged.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1982Date of Patent: June 7, 1983Assignee: Alliance Metal Products Inc.Inventor: George W. Patent number: 4350399Abstract: A furniture is provided of a door formed by a series of uniformly sized panels which are movable from a closed position, in which they are coplanar one with another, to an open position, in which they are parallel and folded on one side of the furniture itself. The panels are connected together by means of a parallelogram linkage system which allows the panels to be moved from the closed position to the open position by means of a single control. The panels slide in an upper guide and a lower guide of the furniture and fold onto the left hand side of the furniture, allowing full access to the furniture itself. The parallelogram system comprises two sets of rods which are substantially identical and arranged between an upper side of the panels and the upper guide of the furniture and between a lower side of the panels and the lower guide, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1980Date of Patent: September 21, 1982Assignee: Ing. Patent number: 4346931Abstract: A bifold door assembly for an access port in a vehicle having a non-linear side wall. The assembly includes a pair of bifold doors, each having a planar outer panel disposed in a plane between an upper overhang and lower stepwell which extend outwardly of the vehicle side wall. The proximate edges of the outer panels seal to each other at the center of the access port and the distal edge of each is pivoted to a coplanar outer portion of a side panel. Each side panel has an inner planar portion pivotally attached to the vehicle interior and an intermediate portion of arcuate cross-section which runs from the outer portion to the inner portion closely past a respective side wall of the access port and in engagement with a seal. The outer panel is guided by a guide track on the overhang and a door operator pivots each side panel to fold the outer panel toward the side panel and inwardly of the access port.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1980Date of Patent: August 31, 1982Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Ralph H. Patent number: 4328853Abstract: A folding screen is formed by a plurality of successively hinged, rigid, radiation-controlling planar panels supported so the screen can be opened (or extended) and closed (or collapsed). Adjacent panels are supported only at their edges, by a hinge member having symmetrical back-to-back tubular channels. The hinge member possesses sufficient rigidity to permit hinged, side-by-side coaction of the panels from a stacked, generally vertical relationship when the screen is collapsed, to an undulating planar relationship when the screen is opened, which relationship is essential if the screen is to be collapsed without binding. The screen is translatable on a pair of parallel, mono-level tracks, and operated by a flexible drive member extending along a rail and connected to the screen's leading ("lead") panel.A novel skylight includes a curb assembly, a "bubble" (or "dome") and a folding screen translatable to-and-fro below the bubble.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1979Date of Patent: May 11, 1982Inventors: George R. Patent number: 4296791Abstract: The invention concerns a folding door of the kind having a primary panel pivoted about one axis on a frame, and a secondary panel articulated with respect to the primary panel and engaging a slide guide which is perpendicular to the pivotal axis of the primary panel.According to the invention, the two panels are articulated by links pivotally connected to each of the primary and secondary panels at second and third axes respectively, and the secondary panel engages the slide guide at a fourth axis located at an intermediate point along the panel, all the four axes being disposed centrally of the thickness of the panels; furthermore, the distance between the second and third axes is equal to the thickness of the panels, and the distance between the third and fourth axes is the same as between the first and second axes. With this construction, the door will open in a substantially smaller space than a conventional door and in addition it can be opened by a simple pushing action.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1980Date of Patent: October 27, 1981Inventors: Bernard Chaumat, Georges Gallet, Jacques Lamare, Guy Peyssard

Patent number: 4133365Abstract: An obstruction sensing edge for a bifolding door includes a body secured to the door. The body defines an internal fluid chamber that is in fluid communication with a fluid actuated switch. The switch controls the opening and closing of the door. Defined on the body portion is an edge portion including a leading edge and side portions extending from the leading edge to the body portion. The leading edge and body portion are fabricated of elastomeric material such that upon engagement of the leading edge with an obstruction, the internal chamber is deformed changing the volume thereof and actuating the switch. The edge portion includes elongated fins extending transversely to the sides of the edge portion such that upon complete closing of the door, the fins seal the door.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1977Date of Patent: January 9, 1979Assignee: Vapor CorporationInventor: George W. Patent number: 4109346Abstract: There is disclosed a pivot and support mounting arrangement for a pivotal door arrangement which permits the door to be adjusted quite easily with respect to the door frame. The arrangement includes a pintle assembly carried by the door and a support arrangement mounted proximate to a lower corner of the door frame, and receiving a projecting portion of the pintle assembly. The support arrangement includes a bracket having an elongate channel-like opening in which is mounted a pintle support block, and selective engageable means to prevent relative movement. A recess is formed in the pintle support block to receive the pintle end portion, and spring means is associated with the support block tending to bias it upwardly. In the assembled condition the weight of the door will overcome the biasing force provided by the spring and the engageable means will be inter-engaged to preclude movement of the support block relative to the bracket.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1977Date of Patent: August 29, 1978Assignee: Lawrence Brothers, Inc.Inventor: Robert E. Patent number: 4106158Abstract: This pivot assembly for a swinging or folding door can be readily adjusted for door height or position of the door pivot axis relative to the door jamb. An L-shaped bracket is connected into the corner between the floor and door jamb. The bracket has a number of discontinuities parallel to the floor to prevent translation. A pivot is mounted on the lower corner of the door, preferably by a plastic sleeve. The sleeve is threaded on the inside and a threaded pin is mounted therein. The lower end of the pin has means directly engaging the jamb bracket to prevent rotation and translation of the pin. To adjust the door in most embodiments it is lifted so that the head of the pin is out of engagement with the teeth in the slot. The pin is rotated by hand to move it up or down in the threaded sleeve. The pivot axis of the pin is adjusted by moving the pin to a desired position on the bracket.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1976Date of Patent: August 15, 1978Assignee: Acme General CorporationInventors: Kenneth K.
