Patent number: 4637446Abstract: A building including an upper wall portion and a lower wall portion and a bi-fold door assembly mounted within an opening therein. The wall portions have front surfaces facing outwardly of the building and the upper wall portion is disposed in a plane intersecting the plane defined by the lower wall portion. The upper wall portion is sloped downwardly and outwardly of the top thereof to a position overlying the lower wall portion and the plane defined by the lower wall portion is a generally vertical plane with the top of the upper wall portion being disposed in or near the generally vertical plane. The bi-fold door assembly is movable between raised and lowered positions within the opening in the wall portions and includes an upper door section and a lower door section. The upper door section is hinged to the lower door section with the door sections having front surfaces facing outwardly of the building and rear surfaces facing inwardly of the building.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1984Date of Patent: January 20, 1987Assignee: Erect-A-Tube, Inc.Inventors: Coy E. Patent number: 4609027Abstract: An overhead door including an upper door panel which is hingedly mounted to a horizontal header of a doorway and to a lower door panel. The door is moveable between a first, closed position wherein the door panels are vertically aligned and cooperate to close the doorway and a second, open position wherein the door panels are in a folded, generally horizontal, and parallel relation. Brace members are provided pivotally mounted to the upper door panel and adapted to engage the vertical door jambs when the door is in its second, open position to provide an angular support therebetween. The brace members are held by cables extending from the lower door panel allowing rollers located at the bottom edge of the lower door panel to engage and roll upon the vertical door jambs when the door is moved between its open position and adjacent to its closed position.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1985Date of Patent: September 2, 1986Inventor: Daniel N. Keller

Patent number: 4545417Abstract: An overhead door, particularly intended for use in a structure having a wide opening, includes an upper section pivotally mounted by hinges to the header beam of the structure, and a taller lower section pivotally mounted to the bottom of the upper section by hinges. Guide tracks are mounted on the side door jambs of the building, and guide rollers are mounted adjacent each lateral side edge of the lower section arranged to be movably captured by the guide tracks during folding and unfolding of the door in opening and closing. A plurality of lift cables are connected at one of their ends to laterally spaced positions along the width of the lower door section and at the same height preferably above its vertical midpoint but below the point where the upper and lower sections are hinged together by a distance equal to or greater than the height of the upper section. The opposite ends of the lift cables are connected to a counterbalance.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1983Date of Patent: October 8, 1985Inventor: Robert W. Todd

Patent number: 4545418Abstract: A locking device for center fold hangar doors having an upper leaf and a lower leaf arranged when closed in vertically superimposed relation for movement relative to one another on a fixed horizontal axis to an elevated open position. A device is affixed to the abutting edges of the upper and lower leaf portions of the door having right angularly disposed telescopically positioned tubular members, one of which is pivoted to the doors on said horizontal axis and the other of which is secured at its outermost end to a bracket forming a portion of the device positioned in horizontally spaced relation to the doors. Locking means alternately secures the telescopically positioned tubular members to one another or permits their free telescopic movement. The device serves to lock the upper and lower leaf portions of the hangar door in vertically superimposed relation when the door is closed.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1984Date of Patent: October 8, 1985Assignee: Fleming Steel CompanyInventors: John F. Patent number: 4518026Abstract: An energy efficient garage door construction comprising a plurality of interconnected door sections. Each of the sections includes a pair of symmetrical metal panels forming the opposed sides and long edges of the section, and an expanded polystyrene core flanked by a pair of wooden stiles with the metal panels adhesively bonded to the core and stiles. The metal panels form oppositely facing recesses along one side edge and tongues along the other side edge so that adjacent panels interfit to create a baffle effect. The wooden stiles give the door sections extra strength and rigidity, while also serving as a reinforcement plate for mounting locks and other door hardware on the end portions of the door sections.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1983Date of Patent: May 21, 1985Assignee: Garland Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Ronald F. Patent number: 4443035Abstract: A window assembly for a vehicle cab having first and second frames and a window horizontally divided into upper and lower sections. The upper section of the window is pivotally mounted to the top rail of the second frame which is totally surrounded by the first frame. The lower window section is hinged to the bottom of the upper window section and has a guide member on its bottom edge which mates with side guide rails formed in the second frame. The window is opened and closed by hydraulic cylinders which positively position and retain the window in a desired position regardless of the vibration or rocking motion experienced by the vehicle as it traverses over uneven terrain. Furthermore, the entire second frame can be opened by pivoting it about the upper edge of the first frame. In so doing, an alternative escape route is provided for leaving the confines of the cab.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1981Date of Patent: April 17, 1984Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventor: Karl L. Patent number: 4026343Abstract: A closure consisting of a bifold door which is weight balanced in any given position and which, when fully opened, occupies the minimum of space. The door consists of two unequal rectangular bifold sections, the smaller of said sections being the upper section and is pivotally attached along one longitudinal side to the frame or beam at the top of the opening to be closed and the other longitudinal side is pivotally attached in an opposite pivotal direction to the lower, larger rectangular section. The lower section is connected by a system of cables and pulleys to a counterweight which applies an upward force to the bifold door which is equal to the weight or downward force of the bifold door when in a closed, or a partial or fully opened position. When fully opened, the upper rectangular section has pivoted to a position at right angles from its closed position and the lower rectangular section has pivoted 180.degree. in relation to the upper section so as to be folded directly under said upper section.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1975Date of Patent: May 31, 1977Inventor: Don E.
