  • Patent number: 10947775
Abstract: A barrier for the inside of a home. The barrier includes two partitions that slide relative to each other to increase and decrease a distance between ends of the barrier. The partitions slide into and out of confronting relationships with each other. The partitions engage each other at upper and lower locations and further at a medial location where an elongate member of one partition is received in a tube engaged to the other partition. A threaded piece upon being turned brings pressure to bear upon an end of the tube such that the partitions can be incrementally expanded apart and thereby pressurized between two locations within the home so as to block off one portion of the home. The threaded piece is slideable along the elongate member.

  • Patent number: 7451802
Abstract: Disclosed are door assemblies particularly well suited for opening and closing wide entries such as emergency room entries. The assemblies have multiple doors that can be overlapped at a side of the entry. If further access room is needed the doors can then be pivoted so that essentially the entire entry is open. There is an automatic latching system that activates as the doors are being pivoted to prevent some sliding motion during the pivoting.

  • Patent number: 7314077
Abstract: A telescopic cover which relieves impact caused when a cover member is stopped moving and which is less meandering. A braking mechanism is provided between one of two adjacent cover members of the telescopic cover and the other of the two adjacent cover members which telescopically moves into and out of the one cover member. The braking mechanism is provided at a distal end portion of the one cover member, and has an elastic member that presses a slide member against the other cover member. When the other cover member moves relatively to the one cover member, a friction force generated by a pressing force of the slide member serves to brake the movement of the other cover member, whereby impact caused when the other cover member stops moving is relieved. The cover member in motion is always pressed by the slide member with an orientation thereof maintained.

  • Patent number: 6178694
Abstract: A two section gate assembly restricts access through a wall opening. The two gate sections overlap as determined by the wall opening size. A vertical hinge rail in one gate section forms a hinge side, and a vertical latch rail in the other gate section forms a latch side. A concealed vertical edge of the hinge rail includes two horizontally spaced swing bolts that are adjusted to compensate for a hinge wall that is not perpendicular. The two swing bolts and two wall mounted hinge pin brackets are covered by decorative hinge covers. A concealed vertical edge of the latch rail includes two horizontally spaced latch tabs that are spring biased downward. Upon swinging the gate assembly to a closed position, the latch tabs encounter wall mounted latch receivers having an upward extending ramp, whereupon the latch tabs are forced to move upward against their spring bias. When the gate assembly is fully closed, the latch tabs drop vertically downward into latch recesses.

  • Patent number: 5829505
Abstract: A safety gate for use in obstructing doorways, passageways and similar openings to restrict the movement of children and the like. The safety gate includes a panel that can be readily secured in and removed from the opening by extending and retracting one or more movable bumpers mounted on an outer rail of the panel. Each movable bumper is urged to the extended position in a horizontal direction by a spring that connects the bumper to a push rod which is mounted in the panel for horizontal movement in alignment with the bumper. Each push rod is connected to an actuator that is mounted in the panel for vertical movement between a lowered position and a raised position. Each movable bumper is independently urged to the extended position by its spring when its corresponding push rod is driven toward the bumper by lowering the actuator. The spring can be a compression spring having one end connected to the bumper and its opposite end connected to the push rod.

  • Patent number: 5535552
Abstract: A pressure-fit barrier such as a gate has a first panel member coupled to a partially overlapping second panel member so that the panels are slidable laterally relative to each other, thus changing the overall width of the gate. A carriage member is slidably mounted on the second panel for lateral movement relative to the second panel and a displacing mechanism is coupled with the carriage member and the second panel and is selectively operable to laterally displace the carriage relative to the second panel. An engagement mechanism is connected to the carriage for selectively engaging with and non-engaging with the first panel. When the engaging mechanism is non-engaged lateral movement of the carriage member with respect to the second panel does not cause relative lateral movement between the first panel and the second panel, and when the engaging mechanism is engaged lateral movement of the carriage member causes corresponding relative lateral movement between the first panel and the second panel.

  • Patent number: 5528859
Abstract: A gate has a first panel member coupled to a partially overlapping second panel member so that the panels are slidable laterally relative to each other, thus changing the overall width of the gate. An over-center type toggle linkage has a pivot link and a handle link and is operable to laterally expand and contract the lateral distance between the ends. One end of the pivot link is pivotally connected to the first panel and the other end is connected to a medial portion of the handle link. One end of the handle link is pivotally connected to a sliding carriage that slides relative to the second panel and the carriage and handle link end are selectively engagable with the second panel by a releasable engagement mechanism. When the engagement mechanism is disengaged, the panels are free to slide laterally to change the width of the gate. When the engagement mechanism is engaged, operation of the toggle linkage expands or contracts the overall width of the gate.

  • Patent number: 4939866
Abstract: A window guard assembly made up of two, slidably coupled, generally U-shaped, members each comprising parallel spaced, elongated, linear legs integrally interjoined at one end to a transverse portion which lies in a plane parallel to the plane of the legs. In assembly the transverse portion of each member extends laterally outwardly and around the legs of the other member. As a consequence, the two members may be assembled slidably with adjacent legs of the two members co-planar and the transverse portions thereof disposed on opposite sides of the assembled members. The outer of free ends of the legs are attachable to window frame members for mounting the guard assembly across a window opening. In a first modified version, each guard member includes three elongated legs attached to a transverse portion and in a second modified version, the transverse portion of each of member is welded to the ends of the legs.

  • Patent number: 4884614
Abstract: A safety gate which is adapted to be mounted on the sidewalls at the top or bottom of a stairway to prevent unwanted access thereto by a toddler or on the sidewalls of a door frame or other structure to prevent unwanted passage therethrough from either direction by a toddler includes a mounting rail which is adapted to be fixedly attached to one of the sidewalls, a locking post which is adapted to be fixedly attached to the other sidewall opposite to the mounting rail and a gate frame assembly which is adapted to be removably and pivotally mounted to one end to the mounting rail and secured at the other end, when desired, to the locking post. When the gate frame assembly is mounted on the mounting rail, the gate frame can be pivoted back and forth like a swinging door when restricted passage is not desired and then locked to the locking post when restricted passage is desired.

  • Patent number: 4846246
Abstract: A security gate includes an installation and release mechanism that is operable with one hand. The gate comprises two panels which are extendible with respect to each other and lockable in the extended position. This makes it possible for the gate to expand across a wide variety of door openings. A handle located centrally on the top of the gate is connected by a pair of cranks and a pull rod to a pair of plungers which contact one side of the door frame. Spring bias on the plungers normally force the plungers into contact with the door frame. Slots in the upper and lower plunger links permit the plungers to accommodate irregular door frames. The handle is employed to withdraw the plungers from contact with the door frames and, conversely, the absence of handle pressure causes the gate to position itself soldily against the vertical door jamb. The handle is also employed by the operator to carry and position the gate in the doorway, allowing one-handed operation.
