Patent number: 7503373Abstract: In a spring-loaded curtain mount, the mount includes a pole interface at a proximal end, a compressive mechanism, and a head at a distal end. The pole interface is adapted to receive the end of a standard length adjustable pole or a painter's pole. The compression mechanism is disposed between the proximal end of the mount and the head. The mount includes a coupling device adapted to receive a portion of a curtain. During installation, the curtain mount is coupled to the end of an extension pole and the length of the pole is adjusted such that the combined length of the pole and mount is slightly longer than the distance between the floor and ceiling. At ground level, a portion of the curtain is attached to the head of the curtain mount. The curtain and mount are raised to the ceiling and the mount and pole are compressed between the floor and the ceiling. This compressive force operates to urge the head toward the ceiling, securing the mount in place.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2007Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Assignee: Zipwall, LLCInventor: Jeffrey P. Patent number: 6865850Abstract: Protective shrouds for temporarily protecting window assemblies, bathroom fixtures, and diverse prefabricated modules used in construction. The shrouds are fabricated from translucent plastic sheet material of polypropylene or polyethylene. A lower open port is selectively blocked by a foldable ventilation panel held in a deployed state by magnets. Rear mounted adhesive strips affix the shroud to the window. Top and side strips are bifurcated to enable rapid adjustments in height and length. When the tear away strips are removed, the exposed adhesive surface is pressed upon the target structure. Slight dimensional adjustments are made by pinching the sheet together, forming creases aligned with strip bifurcations, to gather material and shorten the shroud length or width. During subsequent dry-walling, shroud edges are captivated by wall board segments. Afterwards, the exposed junction between covered shroud and adjacent sheet rock portions is cut, and the shroud is torn away and discarded.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2003Date of Patent: March 15, 2005Inventor: Phillip R. Patent number: 6865852Abstract: A device for protection of property against high winds comprising a flexible material of predetermined strength and stretch characteristics, and in the form of a panel or several panels, utilized to protect the side of a structure including its windows and doors from the strong winds and debris impacts occurring during a hurricane. The device is anchored in a manner to space it out from the area being protected according to formula provided, and can safely dissipate substantial impacting energy. The preferred embodiment attaches to an overhanging eave and the ground below protecting in addition to the windows and doors, plantings, outdoor furniture, decorative shutters, downspouts, and such as are enclosed behind the barrier. Several methods of storage and deployment of said curtain are described including rolling, sliding, and converting to awning. The barrier has the added feature of acting as a tie down in certain applications.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2001Date of Patent: March 15, 2005Assignee: Targus International, Inc.Inventor: Ted Gower

Patent number: 6848492Abstract: An inexpensive, lightweight, reusable and detachable or removable insulation device for residential and commercial dwellings and similar heated structures. The device has an inner-portion insulating pad adapted to fit inside of a typical entrance or window unit framing. The device further has an outer-portion insulating pad adapted to overlap the window or entrance framing. The outer-portion insulating pad is provided fasteners so as to be secured to the building wall structure outside of the framing and surrounding the window or entrance framing by. During cold weather months, the present invention will greatly restrict warm air from escaping between small crevices in inept window systems by fitting firmly into window framing using a insulating material, thus creating a thermal barrier and improving the efficiency of the furnace by reducing the demand for electricity or fuel consumption.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2002Date of Patent: February 1, 2005Inventor: Donald Lee Thomas

Patent number: 6845806Abstract: A weighting assembly for a roller shade fabric includes an elongated hem bar having opposite open ends and defining an internal cavity communicating with the open ends. A spline secured to an end of the fabric is slidingly received in a pocket defined within the cavity through one of the ends. The pocket includes an opening communicating with the rest of the cavity for passage of the fabric to an exterior through an elongated slot in the hem bar. After the fabric is wrapped on an exterior surface of the hem bar, a portion of the fabric is fed into the cavity through the slot to form a loop for slidingly receiving an elongated rod through one of the ends. The rod has a diameter that is greater than a width of the slot to prevent removal of the rod through the slot.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2003Date of Patent: January 25, 2005Assignee: Lutron Electronics Co., Inc.Inventors: Jason Scott Gottschall, Mark A. Publication number: 20040221973Abstract: The porch sail is a combination of varying sized and shaped flat panels that shield a porch or other building structure from sunlight, wind and airborne debris. Each of the panels includes a main body with an outer support edge along the perimeter of the panel. Fastener receiving rings are positioned along the outer support edge. Each panel is attached to adjacent panels by fasteners that extend through the fastener receiving rings on each panel. The porch sails are also mounted to the building structures by the fasteners, which secure the panels to structure mounts positioned along the building structure. The porch sail panels are provided in a wide variety of colors to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the device.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 7, 2003Publication date: November 11, 2004Inventor: Melanie R. Patent number: 6810937Abstract: There is disclosed a system for suspending a rigid panel in an opening formed in a barrier structure. The system comprises a sleeve of flexible material having an anchor portion attachable to the perimeter of the opening and a grip portion opposite the anchor portion. The grip portion is contoured so as to form a channel disposed between an anterior extension and a posterior extension of the grip portion. Each of the anterior extension and the posterior extension comprises a fold of the flexible material having an apex at its inner end. A first elongated tensioning member received within the apex of the anterior extension and a second elongated tensioning member received within the apex of the posterior extension. The edges of the panel are received within the channel and the first and second elongated tensioners may be made sufficiently taut to prevent easy removal of the panel from the channel. Also disclosed is a method of suspending a rigid panel in a barrier structure employing structure as disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2003Date of Patent: November 2, 2004Inventor: James R. Stahl

Publication number: 20040200585Abstract: In a spring-loaded curtain mount, the mount includes a pole interface at a proximal end, a compressive mechanism, and a head at a distal end. This compressive force operates to urge the head toward the ceiling, securing the mount in place.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2004Publication date: October 14, 2004Inventor: Jeffrey P. Whittemore
