In some embodiments the cationic latex is made by treating an anionic latex with a second water-soluble cationic polymer, which may be the same as or different from the first water-soluble cationic polymer. The compositions may be used in papermaking applications, both for internal addition and or coatings.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2005Date of Patent: November 18, 2008Assignee: CPM IndustriesInventor: Glenn R. Publication number: 20080271865Abstract: Compositions and methods of producing colored paper products and agents for making such products are disclosed. Surface-modified pigments can be manufactured to provide selected coloring in a paper product. The pigment can include filler particles that are bound to one or more dye components with a coupling agent, such as a silane coupling agent or a polymer such as a polycation. The pigment can also be formulated to produce a paper product with better particulate and/or fines retention, and/or higher strength by including components that can interact favorably with the fibers of a paper material. The surface-modified pigments can also be utilized to make coloring formulations such as inks for printers and other applications.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2007Publication date: November 6, 2008Applicant: NanoPaper, LLCInventors: David S. Publication number: 20080257509Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for reducing the spreading of additional agent(s) which is/are introduced into the process at a papermaking machine. A flowable paper pulp including fibres and a process liquid and having a consistency of not more than 10% is conducted towards the paper machine's headbox (5). Prior to the introduction (14) of said additional agent the consistency of the pulp is increased to a value higher than 10% by removing (8) process liquid and conducting (11) it in the upstream direction, while compensating process liquid is introduced (13) downstream. The present invention also relates to an arrangement at a paper machine, where separating means (8) are arranged in the process direction before means (14) for introducing additional agent (s).Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2005Publication date: October 23, 2008Inventors: Paul Olof Meinander, Risto Nykanen, Ken Meine
