  • Patent number: 10632471
Abstract: A device for processing feed material, with a housing enclosing a processing space in which a rotor rotatable about the axis of rotation is arranged. The rotor has a rotor disk at which circumference a plurality of axially disposed impact plates is arranged uniformly distributed. A coaxially arranged processing path surrounds the impact plates while maintaining a working gap. Via a material inlet, the device is fed in the axial direction with feed material centrally ending in the processing space, which upon deflection in the region of the rotor disk is fed in the radial direction to the working gap. To ensure complete and gentle processing of the feed material while maintaining its original taste, smell and color, the processing path is part of a basket rotating about the rotational axis.

  • Patent number: 8382950
Abstract: The invention provides a method of recovering and recycling waste coating color from papermaking coating process for use as wet end filler. The inventive method overcomes many technical challenges inherent in using waste coating colors as wet end filler such as the coatings having fine pigments that hurts sheet strength more than regular filler, having strong anionic charge and tendency to disturb wet end chemistry, causing excessive foaming, and containing a large amount of hydrophobic binder particles that tend to agglomerate in the white water and deposit on papermaking equipment. The method involves mixing the coatings with fresh filler particles, adding de-foaming agent, adding cationic coagulant, then preflocculating the mixture. This process causes fresh filler particles, pigments and binders in waste coating color to agglomerate together and form stable flocs with defined particle size distribution.

  • Patent number: 7364642
Abstract: Methods for recycling latex-containing broke are generally provided. Specifically, mechanical treatment may be employed to rework latex-containing broke for reuse in various products without the need for treatment with chemicals, such as hypochlorite, chlorine, or hypochlorous acid. As a result of mechanical treatment, fiber aggregates are formed that have a relatively small size. For instance, a large portion of the resulting fiber aggregates may be relatively free from the latex polymer. Specifically, the fiber aggregates can contain a “core” of latex from which extend short fibers and/or fragments that are uncoated with the latex. The result is fiber aggregates that are uniquely “partially coated” with a latex polymer. When recycled in paper products, these fiber aggregates may impart a variety of benefits, such as increased bulk retention and high water capacity without any loss in absorbency rate.

Specifically, the incorporation of both a temporary wet strength agent and an alkaline reagent into the tissue product results in the tissue product having high initial wet tensile strength and a high rate of wet tensile loss. The high rate of wet tensile loss is caused by the high pH of the alkaline reagent that is incorporated during the dry end of a tissue manufacturing process. The temporary wet strength agent is added in the wet end of a tissue manufacturing process. • Patent number: 6245874
Abstract: A process for making paper with increased wet and dry strength by incorporating into the pulp suspension an ionic thermosettable resin which is the reaction product of dialdehyde and epihalohydrin, or epihalohydrin equivalent, with a copolymer containing monomer units derived by polymerization of monomers comprising acrylamide or alkyl-substituted acrylamide and diallylamine or an acid salt thereof. The paper has wet and dry strength greater than that of paper not containing the resin and has a higher repulpability index than wet strength paper that is essentially the same but contains conventional polyazetidinium ion containing wet strength resin instead of the ionic thermosettable resin.

  • Patent number: 6096167
Abstract: Process for the manufacture of a colored fibre material, containing a certain proportion of cellulose fibres, such as paper and nonwoven. A dyestuff is applied onto reel or sheet pulp either on the whole material or only on part of it, whereupon the reel or sheet pulp is defibrated and dispersed in liquid or foam possibly together with other fibres. The fibre dispersion is thereafter applied onto a wire and dewatered, whereupon the formed fibre web, which contains a substantially even addition of colored fibres, is subjected to possible further treatment steps before drying and reeling. A fibre material manufactured according to the process is also disclosed. If only part of the pulp fibres are colored, a mottled color impression of the material is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6017415
Abstract: A method wherein waste cellulosic material is used as an alternative fiber source during chemical pulping to replace a fraction of the wood chips. The waste cellulosic material is fed to the digester along with wood chips. The waste cellulosic material need not be repulped or slurried prior to digestion. The wood chips may be any species of hardwood or softwood. Normal chemical pulping charges, temperatures and cooking times applied in the case of 100% wood chip pulping may be used for the co-pulping of waste cellulosic material and wood chips. Thereafter, the pulp is processed as usual for chemical pulping, including the steps of blowing the digester, washing and thickening the brown stock, and bleaching the brown stock under the normal conditions used for the component co-pulped with the waste cellulosic material. Further screening or cleaning steps may be required to remove debris from waste cellulosic material.

Abstract: This invention relates to the rehydration of once-dried fiber for use in a papermaking furnish. Such a rehydration of this type, generally, employs temperature, pressure and refining to make the once-dried fiber behave more like a virgin fiber. Thus, higher levels of once-dried fiber can be used without sacrificing paper formation, surface smoothness, and productivity (drainage).

  • Patent number: 5785814
Abstract: The invention is an apparatus and method for unwinding the butt portion of a reel of paper from the reel spool and delivering it to a repulper. It consists of a floor mounted stand with appropriate cradling surfaces to hold the spool butt. An air jet manifold is located at floor level below the stand. Air jets from the manifold direct the sheet toward the repulper. As the sheet enters the repulper it is met by water showers that direct it into the opening of the repulper. Once the sheet is engaged by the air jets and water showers it is continuously unrolled by the force delivered by these devices acting against the sheet. An accelerating mechanism may be provided to begin unrolling the paper from the spool and a brake mechanism is useful for stopping rotation of the spool after all of the paper has been removed.
