Abstract: A clothing for supporting a wet paper web for dewatering is provided, comprising a dewatering fabric extending in a machine direction and formed only from a woven material to have a single, substantially consistent, permeability. A pair of laterally-spaced strip portions extend along the dewatering fabric in the machine direction, with each being substantially and consistently impermeable to air and forming a substantially and consistently smooth non-water-retaining surface. The strip portions define a permeable web-carrying portion of the dewatering fabric therebetween, wherein the paper web carried thereby extends over the entire width thereof. The permeable web-carrying portion allows air to flow therethrough, exclusively of the impermeable strip portions, such that the wet paper web carried only by the permeable web-carrying portion is dewatered. The width of the permeable web-carrying portion thereby defines the width of the wet paper web dried thereon. Associated systems and methods are also provided.

Abstract: An apparatus for transferring a tail of a fibrous web through a press section of a machine for making the fibrous web is disclosed. The apparatus includes a threading device positioned between first and second press section transfer devices that is pivotable between an inoperable position and an operable position. The threading device includes a stationary upper surface defined by a plurality of tubes. The tubes discharge air over the upper surface of the threading device to form an air cushion having an underpressure between the tail of the fibrous web and the threading device. The tail of the web is urged by the air cushion to the second transfer device and is threaded thereinto.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and arrangement for processing a wide paper or board web in connection with such a manufacturing method, in which a wide base web (14) is manufactured and the base web is processed in at least one processing stage before the separation of the finished product by cutting it transversely from the web on the production line. According to the invention, the base web (14) is divided at least once to form two part-webs (17, 18) before the separation of the finished product by cutting it transversely from the web and before the final processing stage preceding separation. At least one part-web (17, 18) formed in this manner is guided to a finishing stage before the separation of the finished product by cutting it transversely from the web on the production line.

Abstract: A manufacturing process for a two-layered facing 1 includes: a front material preparation step 11; a backing material preparation step 21; and a molding step 31. The backing material preparation step 21 includes the following steps: a papermaking step 22 in which short fibers and pulp material are blended and made into a paper, the paper is then coated with a binding agent and dried to obtain a paper sheet 4; and a winding step 23 in which the paper sheet 4 is cut into a tape-like form and rolled into a ring shape to obtain a backing molding material 5. In the molding step 31, the two-layered facing 1 is manufactured by laminating together a front material 2 manufactured in front material preparation step 11 and the backing molding material 5 manufactured in backing material preparation step 21 and thermally molding the two materials together while applying pressure.

  • Patent number: RE39601
Abstract: To accomplish a web transfer, which in reliability is comparable to the one obtained with a closed draw, in any operating environment, but especially where it is desirable to transfer a fast running tissue web (4) from the drying section of a tissue machine, e.g., a Yankee dryer (2), to a reel-up (3), a web support device (10) extends across the width of the web (4) and along a predetermined run of the web support device has a support surface (11) formed by a series of plate member assemblies (23) having means for creating a flow of air in the direction of the web run. Between the web (4) and the support surface (11) the flow of air forms an air layer (15) of reduced static pressure, so as to stabilize the web (4) against flutter. The predetermined run may extend through a calender (7) and past scanner equipment (8). Pneumatic tail threading capabilities may be included.
