    Abstract: A sheet conveying apparatus includes a sheet conveying member; a guide portion configured to define a sheet conveying path; a pressing portion configured to press the sheet to curve the sheet as viewed in a sheet conveying direction in the sheet conveying path; and a moving portion movable by an edge of the sheet passing through the sheet conveying path and arranged so that at least a part of a movable range of the moving portion is overlapped with the pressing portion. The moving portion includes a first abutment portion configured to abut against the sheet passing through the sheet conveying path on one side in the width direction with respect to a conveyance center of the sheet conveying member and a second abutment portion configured to abut against the sheet passing through the sheet conveying path on the other side with respect to the conveyance center.

    Abstract: An image reproduction machine has an outlet opening through which successive image-imprinted paper sheets are forwardly discharged by a spaced series of exit roller sets. The discharged sheets are delivered into an open-topped housing well area having a horizontal bottom surface with a back edge forwardly and downwardly offset from the outlet opening, and a ramped surface extending downwardly and rearwardly from the horizontal surface back edge. A deflector bar adjacent the outlet opening has first downwardly projecting portions that engage each discharging sheet and temporarily corrugate and stiffen it in a manner assuring that its front end portion will forwardly clear the rear horizontal surface edge before bending down to its level. These downwardly projecting portions are interdigitated with the exit roller sets and positioned to perform their temporary corrugation function without crinkling the discharging sheets.

    Abstract: A continuous web of wood or cellulose pulp leaving a dewatering apparatus such as a suction mould or vat machine and having a relatively high content of water, is slitted in two or more longitudinal webs of approximately the same width. The narrow, slitted webs are turned so as to be parallel and brought together or gathered to a multilayer web which is narrower and thicker than the original web. This multilayer web is subjected to further dewatering in one or more pressing machines having dimensions adapted to those of the multilayer web. Finally, the multilayer web is cut transversely into sheets of appropriate size for stacking and packing in bales of suitable size.
