Patent number: 11192740Abstract: A sheet conveying apparatus includes a sheet conveying member; a guide portion configured to define a sheet conveying path; a pressing portion configured to press the sheet to curve the sheet as viewed in a sheet conveying direction in the sheet conveying path; and a moving portion movable by an edge of the sheet passing through the sheet conveying path and arranged so that at least a part of a movable range of the moving portion is overlapped with the pressing portion. The moving portion includes a first abutment portion configured to abut against the sheet passing through the sheet conveying path on one side in the width direction with respect to a conveyance center of the sheet conveying member and a second abutment portion configured to abut against the sheet passing through the sheet conveying path on the other side with respect to the conveyance center.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2018Date of Patent: December 7, 2021Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kohei Mizuguchi

Patent number: 9670027Abstract: A sheet discharging apparatus includes an apparatus body, a discharge unit discharging a sheet out of the apparatus body, and a sheet stacking portion including a stacking surface on which the sheet discharged by the discharge unit is stacked. A sheet processing device processing the sheet discharged by the discharge unit can be mounted on the sheet stacking portion. The sheet discharging apparatus further includes a stiffness imparting unit removably attached to the apparatus body and imparting stiffness to the sheet discharged by the discharge unit. The stiffness imparting unit includes a pressing portion pressing and deflecting the sheet in a width direction intersecting with a sheet discharging direction and a projecting portion projecting from the apparatus body above the stacking surface such that at least a part of the projecting portion overlaps with the stacking surface in a plan view.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2016Date of Patent: June 6, 2017Assignee: Canon Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Yuya Yokobori

Patent number: 6851668Abstract: A representative embodiment provides for a sheet media level detection system, including a first level detector configured to provide a first signal corresponding to a first predetermined level of a first sheet media from a first source within an output tray, and a second level detector configured to provide a second signal corresponding to a second predetermined level of a second sheet media from a second source within the output tray. Another embodiment provides for a method including routing a first sheet media and a second sheet media from respective sources into a common output tray, and issuing a first signal in response to detecting a first predetermined level of the first sheet media using a first level detector, and issuing a second signal in response to detecting a second predetermined level of the second sheet media in the output tray using a second level detector.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2003Date of Patent: February 8, 2005Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Paul K. Patent number: 5800766Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of compacting a plurality of flat, stacked, non-woven cotton and cotton blend articles from a normal size to a greatly reduced size to form a package of such articles that saves exterior packaging, shipping, handling and warehouse costs. The pressure and time dwell are selected to compact the stacked articles to the extent necessary to cause the desired size reduction, but not sufficient to either damage the articles or compact them to the degree that a liquid or other means is required to recover them from their compacted to their original size.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1997Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Inventor: Wayne M. Patent number: 5194904Abstract: An image reproduction machine has an outlet opening through which successive image-imprinted paper sheets are forwardly discharged by a spaced series of exit roller sets. The discharged sheets are delivered into an open-topped housing well area having a horizontal bottom surface with a back edge forwardly and downwardly offset from the outlet opening, and a ramped surface extending downwardly and rearwardly from the horizontal surface back edge. A deflector bar adjacent the outlet opening has first downwardly projecting portions that engage each discharging sheet and temporarily corrugate and stiffen it in a manner assuring that its front end portion will forwardly clear the rear horizontal surface edge before bending down to its level. These downwardly projecting portions are interdigitated with the exit roller sets and positioned to perform their temporary corrugation function without crinkling the discharging sheets.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1992Date of Patent: March 16, 1993Assignee: Compaq Computer CorporationInventor: Mark H. Patent number: 4139411Abstract: A continuous web of wood or cellulose pulp leaving a dewatering apparatus such as a suction mould or vat machine and having a relatively high content of water, is slitted in two or more longitudinal webs of approximately the same width. The narrow, slitted webs are turned so as to be parallel and brought together or gathered to a multilayer web which is narrower and thicker than the original web. This multilayer web is subjected to further dewatering in one or more pressing machines having dimensions adapted to those of the multilayer web. Finally, the multilayer web is cut transversely into sheets of appropriate size for stacking and packing in bales of suitable size.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1977Date of Patent: February 13, 1979Assignee: Myrens Verksted A/SInventor: Oystein Johnsen
