  • Patent number: 9901112
Abstract: An apparatus that uses air-laid paper-making process to produce reconstituted tobacco is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a fiberizer, a base-sheet forming device, a pulp sizing device and a drying device connected in series. The apparatus of the invention is equipped with different interfaces for various materials and an internal humidifying pipeline. Utilizing multiple passages for material transfer helps to improve uniformity of incoming material and controllability. The sized pulp contains more tobacco dusts, tobacco extract, and adhesive agent, which has a higher density. By utilizing this apparatus it can disperse the pulp fully to avoid hot air being unevenly distributed in drying oven from causing excessive drying issue.

  • Patent number: 8691050
Abstract: Continuous transfer of particulate material into pressurized steam reactors is provided by “flow feeder” methods and devices. Material such as lignocellulosic biomass feedstocks are compacted into a “low density” plug, <700 kg/m3, which provides a dynamic seal against pressurized steam through exploitation of a steam condensation zone. The rate at which the steam condensation zone moves into the “low density” plug is offset by the rate at which compacted material is fed into the pressurized reactor. Preferred devices compact material within a flow feeder chamber by use of a loading device that works against counter-pressure provided by an unloading device. Compacted material is actively disintegrated and fed into the reactor by the unloading device. In preferred embodiments, compacted material is fed in a steady-state operation in which the interface between the steam condensation zone and the low pressure inlet zone remains stationary within the flow feeder chamber.

  • Patent number: 7887671
Abstract: The method and a device is for the dilution of dewatered cellulose pulp that maintains a consistency of 20-30% or greater. By shredding of the pulp to a finely divided dry-granulate, dilution to a homogeneous consistency in the medium consistency range can take place exclusively through hydrodynamic effects from the addition of dilution fluid. The dilution fluid is added to granulate at a position at which granulate is in free fall in a standpipe and above a level LiqLEV of diluted pulp in the standpipe. A number of nozzles are arranged around the periphery of the stand pipe, directed in towards the centre of the stand pipe, obliquely downwards in the direction of fall of the granulate. It is possible through this simplified procedure to avoid completely the conventional dilution screws, and this reduces the investment costs and operating costs, while at the same time unnecessary mechanical influence of the pulp fibres can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 7300540
Abstract: A system and method for thermomechanical refining of wood chips comprises preparing the chips for refining by exposing the chips to an environment of steam to soften the chips, compressively destructuring and dewatering the softened chips to a solids consistency above 55 percent, and diluting the destructured and dewatered chips to a consistency in the range of about 30 to 55 percent. The destructuring partially defibrates the material. This diluted material is fed to a rotating disc primary refiner wherein each of the opposed discs has an inner ring pattern of bars and grooves and an outer ring pattern of bars and grooves. The destructured and partially defibrated chips are substantially completely defibrated in the inner ring and the resulting fibers are fibrillated in the outer ring.

  • Patent number: 7300541
Abstract: A chip pretreatment process which comprises conveying the feed material through a compression screw device having an atmosphere of saturated steam at a pressure above about 5 psig, decompressing and discharging the compressed material from the screw device into a decompression region, feeding the decompressed material from the decompression region into a fiberizing device, such as a low intensity disc refiner, where at least about 30 percent of the fiber bundles and fibers are axially separated, without substantial fibrillation of the fibers. Preferably, the fibers are axially separated with less than about 5 percent fibrillation, and subsequently the fiberized material is refined in a high intensity disc refiner until at least about 90 percent of the fibers are fibrillated. In another form the invention combines chip fiberizing with chemical treatments, for improving the pulp property versus energy relationships.

Abstract: The object of the invention is a method and a device for dispersing pulp, especially pulp containing waste paper, in which method ground pulp mass is fed between the blade surfaces (4) of a dispersing device that are brought in a rotating movement in relation to one another. The invention is characterized in that the dispersing event takes place in a narrow opening (5) between the conical surfaces (3) at the outlet end (6) of which there is arranged a running wheel (7) acting as pump by which the pulp is pumped out of the dispersing device by centrifugal force. The inner cone of the dispersing device may act as rotor and the outer cone may act as stator. In addition, the pulp may be diluted at the outlet end of the blade opening (5) with fluid introduced to the intake side of the running wheel (7).

A layer of thickened pulp, formed on a filter surface (22), is pushed along the filter surface by a cleaning member to the discharge end of the pre-thickener and is discharged through the outlet (20). The cleaning member comprises a rotating shaft (30), on which shaft at least one screw thread (32) is fixed so as to leave a free space between the shaft and the screw thread. Essentially non-thickened pulp is allowed to flow through the apparatus via this space.

Abstract: This invention relates to a process of treating a lignocellulosic material to produce bio-ethanol. The process includes the steps of: (a) exposing the lignocellulosic material to conditions including a pH not less than about 8, and steam at a first pressure, to produce a step (a) product; (b) explosively discharging the step (a) product to a second pressure less than the first pressure to produce a step (b) product; and (c) further processing the step (b) product to produce bio-ethanol and other co-products. In another embodiment, the invention relates to a conical auger fractionation column. The fractionation column includes a column body having an input and an output. A conical filter is positioned inside the column body, the filter having a larger diameter end directed toward the input and a smaller diameter end directed toward the output.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a screen for screening two or more pulp mixtures with different roughness. The screen comprises a first screen cylinder and a second screen cylinder. A coarse first pulp mixture is fed into the inlet end of the first screen cylinder, and a second, less coarse pulp mixture is supplied to the second screen cylinder. The pulp mixtures are screened by means of a screen surface of the screen cylinders into accept that passes apertures provided in the screen surface and reject that does not pass the apertures. The accept from the second cylinder is conveyed by means of a guide tube provided between the cylinders towards the inlet end of the first cylinder and it is finally mixed with the first pulp mixture. The accept from the first and the second pulp mixture passes the screen surface of the first screen cylinder.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method for bleaching different types of paper pulp in two steps at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature not higher than 100 DEG C. The first step consists in contacting the unbleached paste with a mixture of paracetic acid and performic acid. The second step consists in treating the bleached pulp derived from the first step, with a solution of soda and hydrogen peroxide. The resulting pulps exhibit a high index of whiteness and a degree of polymerisation close to unbleached pulps. The method is environmentally safe and non-polluting.
