  • Patent number: 9573299
Abstract: A vent hole of a mold for molding a tire is formed by suppressing bending deformation of a wire in a casting mold. By using a relational expression among a length of a wire in a casting space, a diameter of the wire, a contact angle of the wire with respect to a molten metal, and a bent amount of the wire by casting acquired by experiments, the contact angle of the wire at which the bent amount of the wire is within an allowable range is calculated from conditions of an actual length and the diameter of the wire. On the basis of the calculated contact angle of the wire, the wire is disposed in the casting space. By pouring the molten metal into the casting space, a cast metal with the wire cast-in in the casting space is cast. A vent hole is formed by withdrawing the wire.

  • Patent number: 8714953
Abstract: A vulcanizing mold manufacturing method, and a tire vulcanizing mold are disclosed. Tubular bodies each formed by oppositely arranging the inner peripheral surfaces of both end portions of a plate-shaped body are each arranged so that the gap between both opposite end portions thereof is narrowed and that the tips of both end portions come in contact with the surface of the plaster mold, by inserting and fitting both opposite end portions into a fitting portion of a plate-shaped metal fitting protruding from the surface of the plaster mold. Molten metal is poured over the surface of the plaster mold to embed the tubular body in a mold while exposing the tips of both opposite end portions at the tire molding surface of the mold. Abstract: At least one preliminary pattern body, which is then used as part of a pattern or the pattern itself, is produced with fibers and a pattern material. A ceramic mold is formed around the pattern with a portion of the fibers having ends embedded into the mold. The pattern material is removed and finally, metal in liquid, liquid-solid or powdery form is introduced into the mold, wherein the metal is at least partially liquefied in the mold when it is introduced in powdery form. • Patent number: 5190092
Abstract: A method for impregnating an iron product with a hard wear-resistant material surface layer comprises providing a pattern of particles onto a high temperature adhesive layer on a sand core and casting of the iron melt around the particles so as to produce an iron product. Preferably, the pattern of particles is produced by providing a mesh plate having a desired pattern of holes and spreading the particles onto the sheet. The pattern of particles is then transferred on to the adhesive layer so as to minimize contact with the adhesive. This can be accomplished, for example, through the use of adhesive tape. Preferably, the iron product of the present invention comprises ductile iron while the wear-resistant material comprises tungsten carbide which can include about 12 wt % Co.

  • Patent number: 5069265
Abstract: A turbine engine component includes an annular array of airfoils which extend between inner and outer shroud rings. In order to accommodate thermal expansion of the airfoils, space is provided in a shroud ring rail. To provide space in the shroud ring rail, core material is positioned at the ends of the airfoils. The core material may be preformed separetely from the airfoils or may be a coating which is applied to end portions of the airfoils. Wax pattern material partially encloses the end portions of the airfoils and core material. The shroud ring pattern and the core material are covered with ceramic mold material to form a mold. The shroud ring pattern is then removed from the mold to leave the core material disposed in the shroud ring mold cavity at the end portions of the airfoils. As the mold is preheated, bonds between the core material and the airfoils are broken and the core material is gripped between end portions of the airfoils and the ceramic mold material.

  • Patent number: 4961459
Abstract: An improved turbine engine component includes an annular array of airfoils which extend between inner and outer shroud rings. In order to accommodate thermal expansion of the airfoils, cavities are provided in one of the shroud rings. The cavities may be formed by moving a shroud ring under the influence of forces applied to the shroud ring by a gating system. The cavities which are formed in the shroud ring to accommodate thermal expansion of the airfoils may be open-ended, completely closed-ended or partially closed-ended. When a turbine engine component having cavities in an inner shroud ring is to be formed, molten metal in an outer shroud ring mold cavity is first solidified to firmly grip outer ends of the airfoils. The molten metal in an inner shroud ring mold cavity is then solidified. As the molten metal in the inner shroud ring mold cavity solidifies, the gating system contracts to pull the metal in the inner shroud ring mold cavity inwardly relative to the airfoils.

Abstract: Articles of jewelry with gems set in precious metal are cast by a modified lost wax method whereby each gem is retained in position in the investment mold after removal of the wax enabling the setting of the gem to be simultaneous with the casting of the precious metal. The wax model of the article of jewelry is molded with undercut grooves in the sidewall of the gem seat located to engage portions of the girdle of the gem for retention thereof in set position in the finished article. The wax for the model is formulated to provide resiliency to permit the gem to be snapped into position in the wax model prior to embedding the model with the gem set therein in investment material in the conventional flask. Curing time is reduced to approximately one half the conventional fourteen hours by precise control of predetermined time and temperature which also prevents marring of the gems during the curing of the investment and the casting of the precious metal.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved method of forming a metal article having a plurality of airfoils which extend outwardly from a hub. The metal airfoils are formed separately from the hub. In forming a mold to cast the article, blade portions of the metal airfoils are coated with wax. The metal airfoils are then placed in a circular array and are covered with a coating of liquid ceramic mold material. This wet coating of ceramic mold material is dried to form an annular mold wall section having a plurality of recesses in which the blades of the metal airfoils are disposed. The wax coating over the metal airfoil blades is subsequently removed from the recesses to provide space between the blades and the side walls of the recesses. The annular mold wall section in which the blade containing recesses are formed is then connected with top and bottom mold sections to further define a mold cavity having a configuration corresponding to the hub portion of the article.
