Patent number: 11241834Abstract: A system for removing residual powder from a three-dimensional (3D)-printed component integrally constructed with a build plate during an additive manufacturing (AM) process includes an end-effector, an enclosure, one or more transducers, and an electronic control unit (ECU). The end-effector includes a base surrounded by a perimeter flange, and includes a through-opening that receives the build plate. A perimeter clamp attaches and seal the enclosure to a perimeter flange of the end-effector such that the enclosure, the base, and the build plate collectively form a powder containment cavity. The transducers vibrate at a predetermined frequency or range thereof. The ECU transmits a vibration control signal to the transducers during a post-processing stage of the AM process to loosen and remove the residual powder from the component and collect the loosened powder within the powder containment cavity.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2020Date of Patent: February 8, 2022Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Robert L. Patent number: 8342228Abstract: The present invention includes systems and methods for insert-molding. In some embodiments, a hook can be formed in a metal part by passing die-steel of a die-cast mold through the metal part during a die-casting process. When plastic material is insert-molded over the metal part, the plastic material may flow through the hole and into the metal part. Accordingly, in some embodiments the plastic material can be prevented from flowing through the hole during the insert-molding. As one example, a tape material can be coupled over the hole. As another example, a wedge can be press-fit into the hole. As yet another example, a plug can be inserted into the hole.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2009Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Emery Sanford, Ed Holman

Patent number: 8251125Abstract: In a state in which an insert is fitted to an inner portion of a main mold, a hole passing through from an outer portion of the main mold to a cavity of the insert is provided in the main mold to the insert. An extrusion pin bush is inserted into the hole from a side of an opening portion facing the outer portion of the main mold in the hole. A stopper, which is loosely inserted into an outer periphery of a base end side protruding to the outer portion of the main mold from an inner diameter portion of the extrusion pin bush of the extrusion pin, is attached by screw to a thread portion provided in the opening portion facing the outer portion of the main mold. The extrusion pin bush abuts on a locking portion provided on the side of the opening portion facing the outer portion of the main mold in the hole by the stopper.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2011Date of Patent: August 28, 2012Assignee: Showa CorporationInventors: Kenichi Yamada, Taro Nozaki

Publication number: 20120183436Abstract: Provided is a method of producing an aluminum structure using a porous resin molded body having a three-dimensional network structure, with which it is possible to form an aluminum structure having a low oxide content in the surface of aluminum (i.e., having an oxide film with a small thickness), and in particular, it is possible to obtain an aluminum porous body that has a large area. The method includes a step of preparing an aluminum-coated resin molded body in which an aluminum layer is formed, directly or with another layer therebetween, on a surface of a resin molded body composed of urethane, and a step of decomposing the resin molded body by bringing the aluminum-coated resin molded body into contact with concentrated nitric acid with a concentration of 62% or more.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 1, 2012Publication date: July 19, 2012Applicant: SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES, LTD.Inventors: Akihisa Hosoe, Kotaro Kimura, Takayasu Sugihara, Osamu Ohama, Kazuki Okuno, Tomoyuki Awazu, Koji Nitta

Publication number: 20120012272Abstract: A method and a device for casting a cast part from a metal melt. A casting mould in a pivoted mounting comprising a mould cavity shaping the cast part, a feed system and a pour channel, is rotated into a fill position and filled with metal melt. Due to the effect of gravity, the melt flows through the pour channel, wherein the main flow direction of the melt makes an angle relative to the acting direction of gravity. Filling is continued until the casting mould, including the pour channel, is completely filled. Then, the casting mould is sealed with a stopper and rotated into a solidification position, in which the melt in the feed system is pushed against the melt in the mould cavity. The casting mould is held in the solidification position until the metal melt has reached a solidification state in which the cast part can be de-moulded.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 23, 2009Publication date: January 19, 2012Applicant: NEMAK DILLINGEN GMBHInventors: Herbert Smetan, Klaus Lellig

Patent number: 8066053Abstract: Disclosed is a method for dislodging a mold from a casting formed within the mold. The mold may be removed from the casting by scoring the mold and applying a force sufficient to cause the mold to fracture and break into pieces. Additionally, the mold may be fractured by either explosive charges placed in the mold pack or by high energy pulsations directed at the mold. Once the mold is fractured and broken into various pieces it may then be dislodged from the casting.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2007Date of Patent: November 29, 2011Assignee: Consolidated Engineering Company, Inc.Inventors: James Lewis, Jr., Ian French, Volker Knobloch, Scott Crafton, Paul Crafton, James Garrett, John Dalton
