  • Patent number: 6508297
Abstract: Mounted on plate (9), associated to the machine's compacting and ejection piston is pattern plate (10), which incorporates stops (11) restored by springs (12), with an ejection plate (13) placed between said pattern plate (10) and plate (9), aided by guiding elements (14) and complemented by hold down plates (15) which correspond to the holes of the pattern plate. Inside compacting rammer (6) are mounted four ejectors (17) embodied as hydraulic cylinders which, by means of hold down plates (15) attached to ejection plate (13) compact the sand in the holes to then eject the mote. Therefore, the ejection plate has a compacting stroke (Y) prior to the ejection stroke (Z). The machine is thus particularly well suited for efficient moulding of motes having round or otherwise shaped deep holes, without requiring the use of cores.

  • Patent number: 5332025
Abstract: In producing casting molds or mold parts by compacting mold sand in a molding chamber between two pattern plates, the volume of the molding chamber is measured and/or computed, such as by using sensors and a timer/controller capable of computing, before and after the compacting step. The values obtained are used to calculate a compaction ratio which is compared with a desired compaction ratio as a basis for making adjustments to the starting conditions, before the next mold or mold part is produced. In this manner it is possible to achieve a continuous correction of the compacting ratio to form correctly sized molds or mold parts in a series.

  • Patent number: 4791974
Abstract: In a method of operating an apparatus with a mold chamber (8) being supplied with fluidized mold sand (2) from a supply chamber (1) under air pressure applied through suitable air channels (3), and in which the pressure in the supply chamber (1) is increased gradually from a low to a high value to avoid turbulences in the initial filling stage and ensuing weak spots in the molded article, while at the same time achieving a short total filling time and a high degree of compaction during the final stage, the new feature is that vacuum is applied through air-permeable mold chamber walls (9,10), preferably before increasing the pressure in the supply chamber (1), thus avoiding the formation of air pockets in depressions in the mold chamber walls, that could otherwise cause reduced compactness and density in protruding parts of the shaped body (not shown) being formed in the mold chamber (8).

  • Patent number: 4673020
Abstract: A foundry molding machine is provided with a pattern plate surrounded by and movable in a well form. In a preferred form springs bias the well form upwardly around the pattern plate to form a well. The pattern plate and well form are mounted on a squeeze table and cooperate with the underside of a conventional flask which in turn engages an upset to form a mold chamber for receiving molding sand. In such preferred form the sand is blown under very low pressure into the chamber through a slotted squeeze head. As the squeeze table moves upwardly, sand is initially squeezed from the top against the squeeze head while the flask, upset, well form and pattern plate move upwardly as a unit. When a selected level of the flask is reached, preferably when the top is flush with the squeeze head, upward movement of the upset is stopped while the table continues upwardly. The pattern plate then telescopes upwardly within the well form while the flask and well form are held fixed.

  • Patent number: 4203482
Abstract: The improved process comprises placing in an open top, walled enclosure a pattern plate carrying the pattern for the core or mold part to be produced. The height of the pattern plate is adjustable relative to the tops of the walls of the enclosure so that when sand coated with a polymerizable resin is poured onto the top of the pattern the excess sand flows over the tops of the walls, covering the pattern with a mound of sand the slope of the walls of which is determined by the angle of least repose of the sand. A squeeze head having a surface corresponding to the surface of the pattern is now pressed downwardly onto the top of the pile of sand, to compact the sand about the pattern. While thus held by the squeeze head, material such as gas is passed from the bottom of the mold or core up through the now compacted sand, thus to polymerize the resin. The squeeze head is removed and the now cured, resin sand core or mold part is removed, ready for use in the usual way.
