  • Publication number: 20150111027
Abstract: An organic release agent is vacuum deposited over a substrate and surface treated with a plasma or ion-beam source in a gas rich in oxygen-based functional groups to harden a very thin layer of the surface of the deposited layer in passivating environment. Aluminum is subsequently vacuum deposited onto the hardened release layer to form a very flat and specular thin film. The film is exposed to a plasma gas containing oxygen or nitrogen to passivate its surface. The resulting product is separated from the substrate, crushed to break up the film into aluminum flakes, and mixed in a solvent to separate the still extractable release layer from the aluminum flakes. The surface treatment of the release layer greatly reduces wrinkles in the flakes, improving the optical characteristics of the flakes. The passivation of the flake material virtually eliminates subsequent corrosion from exposure to moisture.

  • Publication number: 20140001039
Abstract: The purpose of the invention is to provide a sputtering target formed from a Cu—Ga alloy having a Ga composition of 29 at % or more. [Problem] Since a Cu—Ga alloy becomes a brittle ? phase-single phase structure when the Ga composition becomes 29 at % or more, it cannot be subject to processes such as rolling and forging. Accordingly, the crystal grain size of the cast structure must be small and uniform so that the cast structure can be used as is. [Solution] It is possible to produce a melted and cast Cu—Ga alloy sputtering target containing 29 to 42.6 at % of Ga, and remainder being Cu and unavoidable impurities by continuously solidifying the Cu—Ga alloy sputtering target under solidifying conditions of a constant cooling rate or higher, wherein an average crystal grain size of a sputter front face is 3 mm or less, and a cross section structure of the target is a columnar structure that has grown in a direction from the sputter front face toward a center plane which is parallel to a sputter face.

Abstract: A partial SEN capable of having flow diverter parts installed therein, and a method of using the SEN in a continuous casting system are disclosed. The partial SEN includes a hollow distribution zone at a bottom portion of the SEN which is designed to allow the installation of at least two different types of flow diverter parts, one type of flow diverter parts for a first type of caster mold, and a second type of flow diverter parts for a second type of caster mold. The design of the flow diverter parts and the resulting angles achieved when the flow diverter parts are installed in the partial SEN are matched to a caster mold such that the flow characteristics of molten steel exiting the SEN into the caster mold during continuous casting operation are of a desired and optimal nature to prevent various types of casting defects.

Abstract: The present invention includes a method for casting a silicon ingot by using a continuous casting method by means of an electromagnetic induction, and a method for cutting the silicon ingot as a starting material into plural silicon blocks. When the silicon blocks with a square section are cut out, the sectional shape of the silicon ingot is set to be rectangular. Not less than 6 pieces of equal-sized silicon blocks are cut out from the silicon ingot, thereby enabling to enhance the manufacturing efficiency to a great extent. And since the amount of excision of the edge per silicon block is reduced, the production yield can be enhanced. Further, since the proportion of columnar crystals with large grain size inside the ingot can be increased, it becomes possible to enhance the conversion efficiency of a solar battery using the silicon block as a substrate material.

The movable opposing mold faces may be laterally positioned with respect to each other in a predefined configuration. Molten steel may be introduced into the mold of the slab caster. The lateral positions and/or pressures of the opposing mold faces are monitored at two vertically spaced locations on at least one of the movable mold faces of the opposing mold faces as casting proceeds, and data is generated in response to the monitoring. The opposing movable mold faces may be adjusted in response to the generated data.

Abstract: The production of steels with high contents of manganese (Mn), aluminum (Al), and silicon (Si) with TWIP properties (Twinning-Induced Plasticity) by continuous casting is considered difficult or impossible in the present state of the art for various reasons. These reasons include low strength of the strand shell during solidification due to intense microsegregation of Mn, high strength at relatively low temperatures, reactions of the aluminum in the steel with the flux powder, macrosegregation, depletion of the alloying elements near the surface, and oxidation of the grain boundaries during the reheating of slabs in the pusher furnace. Therefore, in accordance with the invention, successively arranged process steps are used to cast light gauge steel with a given chemical composition of 15-27% Mn, 1-6% Al, 1-6% Si, ?0.

It includes a feed trough for feeding molten metal to the mold inlet end and a horizontal conveyor for receiving a cast billet from the mold outlet end. A moveable cutting saw is operable to move synchronously with the conveyor for cutting a continuous billet into lengths while supported on the conveyor. The billet is resiliently supported and the saw mechanism is isolated so as to minimize transmission of low and high frequency vibrations from the cutting and conveying operations to the mold.

Abstract: An in-line method of producing steel using a continuous caster includes forming a continuous strand of steel from the continuous caster and severing a slab from the continuous strand. An angle between a front face or a rear face of the slab and a line perpendicular to a top surface or a bottom surface of the slab is between about 10° and about 45°. Alternatively, the angle between the front face or the rear face and the line perpendicular to the top surface or the bottom surface is between about 15° and about 35° or between about 20° and about 25°. Primary scale is then removed from the slab with a descaler prior to rolling the slab to a desired thickness. A first waterjet descaler descales only one of the front and the rear faces and only one of the top and bottom surfaces, and a second waterjet descaler descales only the other of the front and the rear faces and only the other of the top and bottom surfaces.
