Publication number: 20150111027Abstract: An organic release agent is vacuum deposited over a substrate and surface treated with a plasma or ion-beam source in a gas rich in oxygen-based functional groups to harden a very thin layer of the surface of the deposited layer in passivating environment. Aluminum is subsequently vacuum deposited onto the hardened release layer to form a very flat and specular thin film. The film is exposed to a plasma gas containing oxygen or nitrogen to passivate its surface. The resulting product is separated from the substrate, crushed to break up the film into aluminum flakes, and mixed in a solvent to separate the still extractable release layer from the aluminum flakes. The surface treatment of the release layer greatly reduces wrinkles in the flakes, improving the optical characteristics of the flakes. The passivation of the flake material virtually eliminates subsequent corrosion from exposure to moisture.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2014Publication date: April 23, 2015Inventors: Michael G. Publication number: 20130277157Abstract: An automotive disk brake assembly installed in an automobile having a wheel. The assembly includes a floating caliper supporting an inner and outer brake pad and a brake rotor having a disk, and a hat, and wherein the hat is bolted to the wheel. A hydraulic cylinder is adapted to push the inner brake pads into the disk surface, causing the floating caliper to move bringing the outer brake pad into contact with the disk. Finally, the rotor is made such that a complete 100 kilometer per hour, 0.9 gross vehicle weight braking causes the disk to expand in thickness by at least 0.15 mm and to cool to shrink in thickness, relative to its expanded thickness, by at least 0.1 mm within 60 seconds of the cessation of braking, in an ambient temperature of less than 30° C.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 18, 2012Publication date: October 24, 2013Inventors: Xiaodi Huang, Xiaobin Song, Nannon R. Publication number: 20130277155Abstract: An automotive disk brake assembly installed in an automobile having a wheel. The assembly includes a floating caliper supporting inner and outer brake pads and a brake rotor having a disk, a hat, wherein the hat is bolted to the wheel. A hydraulic cylinder pushes the inner brake pads into the disk surface, thereby causing the floating caliper to move so as to bring the outer brake pad into contact with the disk surfaces. Finally, the rotor is made of a material having a thickness and a coefficient of thermal expansion and conductivity, such that a complete 100 kilometer per hour, 0.9 gross vehicle weight braking causes the disk to expand in thickness by at least 0.10 mm and to cool to shrink in thickness, from its expanded thickness, by at least 0.05 mm within 60 seconds of cessation of braking, in an ambient temperature of less than 30° C.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 2, 2012Publication date: October 24, 2013Inventors: Xiaodi Huang, Nannon R. Publication number: 20130255242Abstract: An impeller for a torque converter includes a rotating housing portion, a blade portion configured to create fluid flow for pumping fluid to a turbine of the torque converter, and an impeller hub portion configured to couple the impeller to the torque converter and rotate about an output shaft of the torque converter. The impeller hub portion defines an inner surface having an annular recess, and at least one inlet passage and at least one outlet passage to provide flow paths for fluid entering and exiting the impeller. The torque converter further includes a wear member at least partially received in the annular recess, the annular wear member being formed from a ferrous material. The rotating housing portion, the blade portion, and the impeller hub portion are integrally formed as a single piece casting.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2012Publication date: October 3, 2013Inventor: Jason R. Publication number: 20130172509Abstract: Microfabricated particles are dispersed throughout a matrix to create a composite. The microfabricated particles are engineered to a specific structure and composition to enhance the physical attributes of a composite material. The microfabricated particles are generated by forming a profile extrudate. A profile extrudate is an article of indefinite length that has a cross sectional profile of a desired structure with micro-scale dimensions. Upon or after formation, the profile extrudate may be divided along its length into a plurality of microfabricated particles.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2011Publication date: July 4, 2013Applicant: Interfacial Solutions IP, LLCInventors: Adam R.
