Patent number: 11435108Abstract: The present invention is a device for providing a non-conductive refrigerant line break that provides an electrical discontinuity in a high-pressure metallic refrigerant line. The present invention could be used for the installation of HVAC units in which metallic refrigerant lines would necessarily penetrate a security partition or security wall. In an embodiment, a conductive line run external to a secure facility would be broken by a non-conductive line approximately contemporaneously with the conductive line's wall penetration or entirely within an internal cavity. The non-conductive line would run a distance determined by a consulting engineer to provide sufficient security given the application. The non-conductive line would then be attached to a conductive line within the secure facility. The present invention utilizes a non-threaded fitting extension to increase surface area for epoxy bonding.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2020Date of Patent: September 6, 2022Inventor: Raleigh D. Patent number: 8186423Abstract: An apparatus for cooling a hot gaseous medium includes a vessel, wherein a bundle of pipes is disposed in a coolant compartment, and wherein a liquid coolant flows around the bundle. The pipes are mounted near upstream ends in a thermal shield and extend through openings in a support plate mounted at a distance from the thermal shield defining a front space between the thermal shield and the support plate in the vessel separated from the coolant compartment. The apparatus permits addition of liquid coolant to the front space. The openings in the support plate are larger than the pipes, defining an annular space. Liquid coolant flows co-current with the hot gaseous medium in the pipes from the front space to the coolant compartment. A skirt type extension surrounds the pipe in the front space to the support plate and having an opening at the thermal shield.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2005Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Assignee: Shell Oil CompanyInventors: TeckSoon Lau, Tycho Agien Van Der Plas, Edwin Bernardus Wilhelmus Gerardus Voeten

Patent number: 8183723Abstract: An electric motor/generator cooling mechanism is presented. The cooling mechanism includes a hollow cooling jacket having an inner and outer coaxial surface, where the inner surface defines a generally cylindric cavity for receiving a stator in heat transference contact with the inner surface, and the outer surface has a cast spiral groove section with jogged cooling passages. The disclosure includes an outer case having one or more inlet ports, an outlet port, and a vent for purging air, cooling fluid flowingly encased between the cooling jacket and the outer case, flowing through the jogged cooling passages, and a flanged end surface on an end of the outer case for boltingly connecting the cooling jacket to the outer case.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2009Date of Patent: May 22, 2012Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: David Fee, Jonathan Baumann

Patent number: 8162040Abstract: A heated energy system includes an integral ceramic insert heat exchanger having an integral ceramic construction and an outer ceramic wall that is helical in shape. When the heat exchanger is positioned within a surrounding fluid path enclosure, the outer ceramic wall forms, with the enclosure, at least one spiral path for flowing products of energy generation. No more than one insert body has an outer wall that is helical in shape that is present along the first length of the surrounding fluid path enclosure. The outer ceramic wall receives heat energy when the products of energy generation flow through the fluid path. A method for fabricating integral ceramic insert heat exchangers includes using a tool having a silicon carbide channel and a cavity channel, the silicon carbide channel extending at least partially outside the cavity channel in directions defined by a rotational plane of the tool.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2006Date of Patent: April 24, 2012Assignee: Spinworks, LLCInventor: Thomas D. Patent number: 8141199Abstract: A coil heater assembly has a housing. The housing has a heated gas inlet and a heated gas outlet. The coil heater assembly has a plurality of coils. The coils are formed of a single tube. The coils are shaped into separate coils with a water inlet and a water outlet. Each of the coils is spiraled around its own unique axis. The axes are parallel with respect to each other. In this manner the heat transfer between the gas and water within the coil heater assembly is maximized.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2008Date of Patent: March 27, 2012Inventors: Peter C. Patent number: 8113440Abstract: Disclosed herein is an exemplary supplemental heating system including a liquid heat generator having a hydrodynamic chamber for selectively heating a fluid. The supplemental heating system further includes a manifold having an inlet passage fluidly connectable to a discharge passage of a heat exchanger, a first discharge passage fluidly connectable to an engine cooling system, and a second discharge passage fluidly connected to an inlet passage of the hydrodynamic chamber. A control valve comprising a spool slideably disposed within the manifold controls distribution of the fluid between the manifold inlet passage and the first manifold discharge passage, and the manifold inlet passage and the manifold second discharge passage.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2008Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Assignee: Ventech LLCInventors: Jeremy J. Patent number: 8100195Abstract: Example motor cooling radiators for use in downhole environments are disclosed. A disclosed example radiator comprises a cylindrical housing having an annular passageway. The housing defines an inlet at a first end of the housing and an outlet at a second opposite end of the housing. A channel is arranged within the annular passageway of the housing along a spiral path to transport the first liquid and to define a spiral flow passageway between the inlet and the outlet for the second liquid. In operation, the first liquid does not contact the second liquid and heat is transferred between the first and second liquids as the second liquid flows in the spiral passageway.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2009Date of Patent: January 24, 2012Assignee: Schlumberger Technology CorporationInventors: Chen Tao, Thomas Meyer

Patent number: 8087182Abstract: A method for operating a condenser tumble dryer is provided and includes a drying chamber for containing objects to be dried, a process air circuit having a heating element, a fan for conducting heated process air over the objects, a heat pump circuit having an evaporator, a compressor, and a condenser, and sensors for determining the humidity in the objects to be dried. According to the method, the humidity is determined and the process air is heated by the condenser until the humidity ranges between about 0% and about 12%. In the event that the humidity drops below the predetermined value, the heating element is activated and operated for at least five minutes so that the air temperature in the drying chamber reaches at least 70° C.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2008Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeraete GmbHInventor: Günter Steffens
