  • Patent number: 4774395
Abstract: An electric heat storage apparatus, such as a steam iron, hot plate, pan, etc., includes a metal body defining a hollow housing enclosing a heat storage device containing a thermally decomposable heat storage substance comprising 30-99% by weight pentaerythritol. The heat storage substance is completely confined in a fluororesin enclosure which isolates the substance from the metal body and prevents contact of ambient air therewith so that the thermal stability of the pentaerythritol is enchanced. The metal body is heated by an electric heating element to a selected temperature for storing heat in the heat storage substance. In the case of use as a cordless electric steam iron, the metal body forms the sole plate of the iron and is provided with a vaporization chamber in heat exchange relationship with the heat storage substance for the generation of steam.

  • Patent number: 4722026
Abstract: An apparatus for thermally protecting heat sensitive components of tools. The apparatus comprises a Dewar for holding the heat sensitive components. The Dewar has spaced-apart inside and outside walls, an open top end and a bottom end. An insulating plug is located in the top end. The inside wall has portions defining an inside wall aperture located at the bottom of the Dewar and the outside wall has portions defining an outside wall aperture located at the bottom of the Dewar. A bottom connector has inside and outside components. The inside component sealably engages the inside wall aperture and the outside component sealably engages the outside wall aperture. The inside component is operatively connected to the heat sensitive components and to the outside component. The connections can be made with optical fibers or with electrically conducting wires.

  • Patent number: 4709752
Abstract: A protection against overheating not only of the heat transmitting component (2), but also of the components (3) surrounding said component is achieved. A latent heat store (1) is provided between the heat transmitting component (2) or a part thereof and a component (3) to be protected from overheating or a part thereof. The latent heat store (1) comprises a latent heat storing agent, whose melting-point T is between the operating temperature of the heat transmitting component (2) and the maximum permissible temperature of the component (3) to be protected. The quantity is proportioned so that the storage capacity of the latent heat store (1) is sufficient for the amount of heat maximally to be transmitted by the heat transmitting component (2). Between the heat transmitting component (2) and the latent heat source (1) and between the latent heat store (1) and the component (3) to be protected a thermal insulation (4,5) is provided.

  • Patent number: 4671349
Abstract: Well bore logging apparatus including electrical components cooling apparatus. An operating chamber and a heat sink chamber are incorporated. A heat transfer chamber encloses both operating chamber and heat sink chamber. A wicking material fills a portion of the transfer chamber to be in thermal connection with both operating chamber and heat sink chamber. The heat sink chamber contains a heat sink material. A heat transfer medium is contained in the heat transfer chamber which is vaporized by heat from the operating chamber, then condensed by the heat sink medium to be absorbed into the wicking member and transported through the wicking member by capillary action back to the operating chamber for revaporization. Heat transfer chamber is isolated from operating chamber.
