  • Patent number: 5975199
Abstract: A flat heat exchanger fin includes a body having arrays of louver groups formed therein. Each array includes four louver groups. The first and second louver groups are disposed over a respective pipe, with the second louver group disposed behind the first louver group. The third and fourth louver groups are disposed beneath a respective pipe, with the fourth louver group disposed behind the third louver group. Each louver group includes a plurality of louvers which form slits through the body. The slits extend transversely relative to the air flow direction and generally radially with respect to the respective pipe. Each louver group includes a proximate edge facing a respective pipe, and a remote edge facing away from the pipe. The remote edge is spaced from the respective pipe by a substantially constant separation distance. Dew-draining ridges are formed in the fin above, below, in front of, and behind respective pipes.

  • Patent number: 5934363
Abstract: A heat exchanger includes parallel fins and coolant-conducting tubes extending perpendicularly therethrough. There are three rows of the tubes, the three rows disposed in first, second and third sections, respectively, of the fin. The three fin sections are arranged sequentially from an upstream side to a downstream side of the fin, whereby the first section defines the upstream side, the third section defines the downstream side, and the second section is situated intermediate the first and third sections. The second and third sections have slits formed therein, whereas the first section is slit-free. The number of slits in the second section is from 50 to 80 percent of the number of slits in the third section, so that the air flow resistance is highest in the third section where the differential between air temperature and tube temperature is smallest.

  • Patent number: 5927392
Abstract: A heat exchanger includes parallel vertical fins through which horizontal heat exchanger tubes project. Each fin possesses groups of louver patterns, each group arranged between two vertically adjacent tubes. Each group of louver patterns is formed by first, second, third and fourth louver patterns arranged generally radially with respect to an adjacent tube. The louver patterns provide slits in the fin through which air can flow. The orientation of the louver patterns is such that a minimum vertical distance between vertically adjacent ones of the groups is shorter than an outer radius of a respective tube.

  • Patent number: 5738168
Abstract: A conductive fin for a heat exchanger includes an elongated fin member having two rows of tube receiving apertures extending through the fin member. The fin member includes two rows of raised members located on either side of a centerline bisecting the fin member so as to form a series of closely spaced pairs of raised members located between any two tube receiving apertures and being symmetrical about the centerline and defining two openings with one opening being larger than the other. Each of the raised members defines a pair of legs extending from the plane of the fin member and is positioned to channel air into the space between each respective pair of tube receiving apertures so as to increase the coefficient of heat transfer therebetween without increasing air pressure drop across the heat exchanger.
