The liner hanger housing is secured in the string of casing. Both a setting mechanism and a liner engagement member are connected to the slips and are also located in the pocket. A releasable latching mechanism maintains the slips in the run-in position until the releasable latching mechanism is actuated. As the liner is moved through the casing coupler, the liner engagement member engages the liner through frictional force to cause the setting mechanism to move with the liner so that the latching mechanism can be disengaged and the slips can move axially downward. Patent number: 6880642Abstract: A method and apparatus of plugging and abandoning a well includes using a plug apparatus and installing bentonite elements in an oil well production casing having a bore. The plug apparatus is lowered into the production casing bore to a selected elevation using a slick line or the like. The apparatus has a tool body and slip dies that are movably mounted upon the tool body to move between extended and retracted positions. Afer the tool body is positioned at a selected location within the casing bore, tension is applied to the slick line to move the slip dies to an extended position wherein the slip dies engage the casing and secure the tool body in a desired location. The casing bore is then displaced with water above the tool body. Bentonite elements are then dumped into the water filled wellbore. The bentonite elements are allowed to swell to form a plug. Patent number: 5771969Abstract: A Helical Bearing Anchor and Catcher for the insertion into a well conduit to anchor well equipment in both linear directions and rotation in one direction. The device has a helical groove in either the mandrel or the drag body to accommodate the helical bearing. The helical bearing has holes within it to accommodate shear pins. The shear pins translate the linear motion from the helical bearing to the drag body. The drag body has a conical surface which contacts slips to drive them outward and grip the inner well conduit wall. Once the slip grips the inner well conduit wall the mandrel and the attached well equipment can not move linearly in either direction or rotate further in the setting direction within the well conduit. The anchor catcher can be unset by rotating the mandrel in the direction opposite to the setting direction.
