  • Patent number: 11649687
Abstract: A high expansion anti-rotation anchor catcher includes a helical track positioned on an exterior surface of a tubular body. An expandable gripper cage is provided having an axially fixed hub mounted for rotation about the tubular body and an axially movable hub mounted for rotation about the tubular body. Pivoting linkages which support outwardly oriented grippers extend between the axially fixed hub and the axially movable hub. The axially movable hub has a track follower that engages the helical track on the exterior surface of the tubular body. Rotation of the tubular body in a first rotational direction causes the track follower to move along the helical track toward the axially fixed hub, thereby placing the expandable gripper cage in compression and causing the pivoting linkages and grippers to pivot outwardly away from the tubular body to secure the anchor in position.

Abstract: A pin whose movement triggers setting of the borehole tool, is initially held by a collet that is supported off a surrounding housing. A spring is supported off the pin and would push a housing that locks the collet to the pin axially to unsupport the collet but for the presence of a Kevlar® wire that has an associated heater. The wire pulls the housing that locks the collet against the spring bias and has an end attached to the pin. Melting the wire allows the spring to move the housing that traps the collet to the pin. At that point hydrostatic pressure can move the pin to either open a port on the borehole tool to set it hydrostatically or to move an actuation rod attached to the pin to set the borehole tool mechanically or with a combination of mechanical and hydraulic force.

Abstract: A fracturing system includes a fracturing spool that mounts onto a wellhead assembly for injecting fracturing fluid into a well beneath the wellhead assembly. An isolation sleeve is included with the fracturing system that couples to the fracturing spool and extends into the wellhead to isolate and protect portions of the wellhead assembly from the fracturing fluid. A seal is between the isolation sleeve and bore of the wellhead assembly, which is threaded to the isolation sleeve. Manipulating the threaded connection between the isolation sleeve and seal selectively positions the isolation sleeve to designated axial positions within the wellhead assembly.

  • Patent number: 9388662
Abstract: A settable down hole includes a set of metal slips which include intersecting zones of weakness in the metal which fracture into a large set of pieces during setting of the tool so the pieces can be circulated out of a well without further reduction in size. One zone of weakness is a closed bore passage extending axially through one or more of the slip segments. An expander cone of increased hardness allows an increased angle on the expander cone and slips.

Abstract: A system and methodology facilitates conveyance of a tool, e.g. a downhole completion or completion component, via a tool string. The tool string comprises a contraction joint designed to contract if the tool incurs sufficient axial loading. The contraction joint may comprise an outer housing and a mandrel slidably received in the outer housing. The contraction joint also comprises a resettable locking member which selectively releases the mandrel with respect to the outer housing to contract the contraction joint when under sufficient axial loading.

  • Patent number: 9181758
Abstract: A latch assembly for a diamond core drill wire line. Included is a cylindrical main body having a main body interior, an outer wall, a main body end and a latch end. A ball hole is defined through the main body. An inner shaft ball lock is contained within the main body. A spring is disposed on the inner shaft ball lock. A main body top is attached to the main body end to contain the inner shaft ball lock within the main body and limit upstream movement of the inner shaft ball lock. A steel ball is then captured between the inner shaft ball lock and the outer wall of the main body such that upon axial movement of the inner shaft ball lock the ball penetrates up through the outer wall to extend past the main body to thereby latch onto an outer tube assembly.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for laying an expansible lining in a conduit. The device may include a patch having an initial diameter less than that of the conduit, and the patch may be configured to deform by radial expansion beyond an elastic limit to an expanded diameter such that it may contact a wall of the conduit. The device may also include an expander tool axially displaceable inside the patch, and the expander tool may be configured to cause the radial expansion of the patch to an expanded diameter. The device may also include a checking member mounted in proximity to the expander tool. A section of the checking member may be calibrated so that the checking member and the expander tool are capable of passing freely inside the patch when the patch is properly expanded, and the checking member and the expander tool are unable to pass inside the patch when the patch is improperly expanded.

  • Patent number: 9010446
Abstract: An anchoring system for use with a downhole tool includes a body with anchor members mounted on the body that pivot radially outward from the body and into engagement with an inner surface of a tubular. Curved slots are provided along a portion of the members and a sliding block has a protrusion that projects into the slots. The slots are curved so that when the block is urged axially within the body, the interaction between the slots and protrusions pivots the members radially outward. A piston is urged through the body to drive the block. Optionally, an elongate helical gear may cooperate with grooves formed in an edge of the members so that rotating the gear pivots the members radially outward.

  • Patent number: 8997857
Abstract: The present invention provides a system for anchoring an expandable tubular to a borehole wall. The system comprises a support member having a first end fixed relative to the outside of the tubular and a second end comprising a ramping surface. An anchor member has a first end fixed relative to the outside of the tubular and a second end extending toward the support member, said second end being movable relative to the outside of the tubular. Said support member includes a ramp surface that tapers in the direction of said anchor member. Expansion of the portion of the expandable tubular between the first support end and the first anchor end causes the axial device length to shorten, wherein the difference in length is sufficient to cause the second anchor end to move radially outward and engage the borehole wall as a result of engagement with said ramping surface.
